Its combat is a distinctive idea that some reviewers found deep and satisfying, while others felt repetition and pacing problems kept it from sustaining a full game. It launched September 24, 2026, for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic.
What kind of game is Qliphah in Providence’s Shadow?
Arc System Works describes it as a tactical counter-timeline role-playing game set in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo where supernatural phenomena are contaminating reality. Delivery worker Soma Hoshigami is attacked and becomes a “half-turned” human-supernatural being. Investigator Rena Hizuki takes him into custody as “lost property,” and the two investigate the “Tiny True” drug, Stigma markings, and a shadowy cult. The setting is identified as Tokyo in 2030 after the “Collapse” by Virtualni Kutak’s review.

It combines investigation and story scenes with tactical action combat. RPGamer describes selectable locations and visual-novel-style scenes rather than free exploration, so expect to advance through presented story beats and investigations, not roam a seamless city.

Combat revolves around watching for telegraphed enemy actions, managing skills as they recharge, and responding at the right moment. Arc System Works says players can slow or pause the screen to read the battle situation, predict attacks, and plan around skill recharge. GameObserver reviewer Mateusz Niewierowski describes matching counters to the color of an incoming enemy attack.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The idea asks you to do more than select an attack from a menu: track the timeline, interpret the threat, and decide whether to act or wait. That can make encounters feel tactical and timing-driven. It also means combat may be demanding if you dislike monitoring several systems at once or prefer uncomplicated turn-based battles.
What reviewers liked—and what they did not
The reviews disagree most on whether the combat’s unusual timing and build depth remain engaging over a full game. COGconnected’s Stephan Adamus praises the combat depth, horror-JRPG identity, and art direction, but warns that the systems and interface can feel overwhelming and that the learning curve is steep. Press Play Media likewise found combat satisfying when its systems clicked, while noting uneven investigation, pacing, and enemy variety; it scored the game 7.3/10, which is that outlet’s assessment rather than a consensus score.

Other reviews are more critical of how well the concept holds up. TheSixthAxis reviewer Aran Suddi points to repetitive fights and counter pacing, and argues that the rhythm-like combat feels difficult to carry across a full game. RPGamer also criticizes repetition and exposition-heavy storytelling, while recognizing the premise and atmosphere. GameObserver’s Niewierowski calls the combat promising but is broadly negative about the rest of the experience.

These are review judgments, not measurable guarantees; several outlets disclose publisher-provided review copies or codes, and the cited reviews concern the versions their authors played. The common practical signal is that the combat is the main reason to try the game and also the likeliest reason it will not suit you.

Does the story and presentation suit you?
The ingredients are deliberately crowded: supernatural contamination, a cult, a drug investigation, and a protagonist caught between human and supernatural identities. That gives the game a distinct horror-JRPG premise, and reviewers including RPGamer and COGconnected respond positively to aspects of its atmosphere and identity. But the exposition-heavy delivery noted by RPGamer and the story’s competing elements noted by TheSixthAxis may be a drawback if you want a restrained plot or long stretches of direct exploration.
The publisher lists blood, drug reference, language, partial nudity, and violence as content descriptors. Those details may matter when deciding whether the game is appropriate for a particular player.

Should you play it?
- Consider it if timed counters, enemy tells, skill management, and a supernatural horror-JRPG setting sound appealing.
- Be cautious if repetitive encounters, dense interfaces, or exposition-heavy storytelling tend to wear you down.
- Look elsewhere if your priority is free exploration or a straightforward, low-pressure combat system.
Difficulty can be changed at any time without affecting the story, according to COGconnected’s review. That may help if the learning curve is your main concern, though it does not address repetition or story pacing.
