When multiple views need the same records, apply eligibility rules and shared display transformations once in the service-owned pipeline. Each consumer can then read the same filtered, sorted, display-ready collection, while components keep view-specific state such as selection and editor feedback.
What belongs in the pipeline?
In the Chapter 7 example, the pipeline processes candidate records before the component observes the committed FeatureCell State. Resolve produces candidates; Merge may combine them with current committed state; Filters decide which records are eligible; and ordered Reducers prepare the retained records for consumers. The service owns pipeline registration and committed feature state.

This division gives shared collection rules one owner. If each view filters or sorts independently, those views can show different interpretations of the same data. A shared pipeline provides a common result without making the component responsible for transformations that other consumers also need.

Filter for eligibility
The example filter removes a character whose lastName is exactly unknown. That predicate is a tutorial example, not a general rule for incomplete records. In an application, eligibility might instead reflect authorization, active status, or validation. Consider whether excluded raw data must remain available for correction or audit before filtering it out of the consumer-facing collection.
#1 Best Overall
Use reducers for ordered transformations
After filtering, the chapter describes three reducers, applied in this order:
- Derive a Yes/No display value from force sensitivity.
- Clone the retained collection and sort it by last name.
- Derive a reusable full name.
Each reducer receives the preceding result, so order is part of the data flow. The filter answers which records remain; reducers prepare those records. Returning new collections when sorting or transforming avoids mutating pipeline inputs.
What changes in the template?
The template reads the prepared values directly. It no longer decides eligibility, sorts records, concatenates names, or translates a boolean into display text during rendering. In the example, Chewbacca is absent because the seed record has an unknown last name; the four retained records are sorted by last name and have both fullName and forceSensitiveDisplay available.

Keep presentation state with the component
Centralizing shared collection transformations does not mean moving every UI concern into the pipeline. The component remains responsible for presentation-specific state, including selected identity, editor mode, form values, confirmation state, and feedback. Shared data preparation belongs with the service; state that exists to operate a particular view belongs with that view.
What should you verify?
The chapter’s copy recommends checking the visible result and the transformation contracts. No execution or test run is established by that source, so treat these as checks to perform in your own implementation:
Rank #4
- The intended record is excluded by the filter.
- Retained records appear in last-name order.
- Every displayed record has both derived fields.
- Sorting and derivation leave pipeline inputs unchanged.
- Pipeline registration order matches the intended flow.
Source and version scope
The available chapter copy is hosted by AIWithGhost and says it was originally published by Dev.to WebDev. A DEV Community topic listing names SDuX Vault for a post with this chapter title and gives September 29 without a year in the returned text. The original article and primary project documentation were not accessible, so the precise Angular, TypeScript, or package versions—and whether the example matches a current implementation—are not established.
