Use Puppeteer’s en-IN locale for English-language Indian conventions, JavaScript’s Intl.NumberFormat and Intl.DateTimeFormat to format values explicitly, and Page.screenshot() to capture the result. Set the timezone separately if dates should show India-local time: locale affects formatting conventions, while timezone affects which clock time a date represents.
Runnable example: format values, then capture the page
This ES module example creates a page with an Indian-grouped number and a date formatted for India. It uses a fixed timestamp so the output does not depend on the machine’s current time. The date formatter’s explicit timeZone controls the displayed date and time.

import puppeteer from 'puppeteer';
const browser = await puppeteer.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.emulateLocale('en-IN');
await page.emulateTimezone('Asia/Kolkata');
await page.setContent(`
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en-IN">
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Indian number and date formats</title>
<div id="output"></div>
<script>
const amount = 1234567.89;
const date = new Date('2026-10-03T12:00:00Z');
const numberText = new Intl.NumberFormat('en-IN').format(amount);
const dateText = new Intl.DateTimeFormat('en-IN', {
year: 'numeric',
month: 'long',
day: 'numeric',
timeZone: 'Asia/Kolkata'
}).format(date);
document.querySelector('#output').textContent =
numberText + ' | ' + dateText;
</script>
</html>
`);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
Install Puppeteer in your project if it is not already present (npm install puppeteer), save the example as an .mjs file, and run it with Node.js. The sample is designed to demonstrate the configuration; exact punctuation and date wording can vary with the browser runtime and its locale data, so check the rendered output in the environment where you will capture screenshots.
Choose locale and timezone independently
Locale controls regional presentation
en-IN requests English-language Indian formatting conventions. Pass the locale directly to Intl.NumberFormat and Intl.DateTimeFormat when you control the page code; this makes the desired formatting clear and reproducible. For example, new Intl.NumberFormat('en-IN').format(value) formats a number using that locale’s conventions. MDN’s Intl.NumberFormat reference documents the formatter and its options.

If the page relies on the browser’s default locale instead, call await page.emulateLocale('en-IN') before navigating to it. That is useful when the application reads browser locale settings during startup. An explicit locale in each formatter is preferable when you need the code itself to state the required format.
Timezone controls the clock time
Use await page.emulateTimezone('Asia/Kolkata') when the page should run with India’s timezone. This is distinct from locale emulation. When you own the formatter, specifying timeZone: 'Asia/Kolkata' in Intl.DateTimeFormat makes the date rendering explicit even if the page’s ambient timezone differs. If a timestamp should remain in another timezone, use that timezone rather than changing it merely to obtain Indian number or date conventions. See MDN’s Intl.DateTimeFormat reference for date formatter options.

Apply the settings to a real website
- Create the page and set locale and, if needed, timezone before navigation. For example:
const page = await browser.newPage(); await page.emulateLocale('en-IN'); await page.emulateTimezone('Asia/Kolkata');. - Navigate to the target and wait for the page state your application needs:
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle0' });. Replace the example URL with your own. Network-idle waiting may not be appropriate for pages with long-lived network activity; use a suitable navigation condition or wait for a specific selector instead. - Verify the actual date and number text in the page. Locale emulation does not rewrite text that the site has already formatted or hard-coded. A site may also choose its own locale or timezone logic.
- Capture the page with
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true });. RemovefullPageor set it tofalsefor the current viewport. Puppeteer’s screenshot guide says, “For capturing screenshots usePage.screenshot().” For a specific element, use that element handle’sscreenshot()method; the guide notes it attempts to scroll a hidden element into view. The Page.screenshot() API reference documents page screenshot options, including full-page capture and clipping.
The sample uses page.setContent() because it owns the displayed text. For an application you do not control, emulation can influence browser-provided locale and timezone behavior, but it cannot guarantee that the site will honor those settings. Inspect the rendered page rather than assuming it has changed.

- The date changes by a day. The input timestamp may fall on a different calendar day in the selected timezone. Decide which timezone the date should represent, then set it explicitly in the date formatter.
- Numbers or dates remain unchanged. The site may use hard-coded strings, its own formatting rules, or values formatted before your emulation settings took effect. Set emulation before navigation and, when you control the code, pass
en-INto eachIntlformatter. - The output’s punctuation or wording differs across machines. Browser version and ICU/locale data can affect exact grouping, punctuation, and date wording. Validate the rendered output in the deployment runtime instead of relying on an assumed literal string.
- Locale changed but the clock did not. Locale and timezone are separate settings. Add
emulateTimezone('Asia/Kolkata')for page-level India-local time, or set the desiredtimeZonein the specific date formatter. - The screenshot is blank or incomplete. Confirm navigation or content rendering has completed before capturing. For dynamic pages, wait for a meaningful selector or application-ready condition rather than assuming that navigation alone means the content is ready.

Does Puppeteer’s locale setting automatically translate or rewrite page content?
No. Locale emulation affects browser locale behavior; it does not translate text or replace content the site has already rendered.
