Capture a transparent PNG
Puppeteer’s ScreenshotOptions reference documents omitBackground as false by default. Set it to true to hide the default white background and allow transparency. Choose the capture area separately
Transparency and image bounds are separate choices. Add fullPage to include the whole page, or use clip to capture a specific region. The documented default for fullPage is false. If you combine clipping with capture beyond the viewport, check the defaults for the Puppeteer version installed in your project.

Check the output in your runtime
The API documents the transparency option, but does not guarantee identical results across every browser build, headless setting, website style, or image viewer. Inspect the generated PNG in the same runtime used by your project, preferably against both light and dark backgrounds. This helps distinguish genuine transparent pixels from a white page background or a viewer that displays transparency as white.

.pngif you want the documented default image type and a straightforward alpha-capable format. - Check whether the page itself paints a background.
omitBackgroundhides the browser’s default white background; it does not mean every website’s own styling will be removed. - Verify the image in the project’s actual browser version and launch configuration before relying on the result.
The current official API reference identified for this option is Puppeteer 25.12.0. If your dependency is older or newer, compare its installed version’s documentation rather than assuming every default is unchanged.

page.pdf() is a different export method and uses print media by default. PDF has its own options interface, which separately documents omitBackground for hiding the default white background and allowing PDF transparency. That PDF setting is not needed for the PNG screenshot shown above. PDFOptions · Page.pdf()

Troubleshooting transparent Puppeteer screenshots
The image still looks white
First open the PNG against a contrasting background or in an editor that shows transparency. Then confirm the screenshot call includes omitBackground: true and check whether the website paints a white background itself; the option is documented as hiding the browser’s default white background, not as stripping page styles.
The screenshot is cropped or too short
Use fullPage: true for a full-page capture. If you use clip, verify its coordinates and dimensions and review the capture-beyond-viewport behavior for your installed version.

Transparency behavior is not established as identical across all browser builds, headless settings, styles, or viewers. Reproduce the capture using the project’s actual browser version and launch setup, then inspect the resulting PNG in a second viewer.
