If a Puppeteer screenshot workflow times out, first find which operation failed. Increase the timeout on page.goto() if navigation is slow, or on the explicit wait if the page element or readiness condition is late. Puppeteer’s current page.screenshot() reference does not document a screenshot-specific timeout option, so changing a navigation or wait timeout does not set a timeout for the screenshot call itself.
Identify the operation that timed out
“Screenshot timeout” can describe several different failures. Read the error and stack trace to locate the rejected call before changing a timeout:
page.goto(),page.reload(), or another navigation method: adjust that navigation’s timeout or the navigation default.page.waitForSelector()or another explicit wait: adjust that wait’s timeout or the applicable default.page.screenshot(): the current screenshot method and options references do not document a timeout field. Check the installed Puppeteer version, browser or process health, page dimensions, capture settings, and any test runner or wrapper that may impose its own limit.
A third-party wrapper or test runner may have its own timeout outside Puppeteer’s Page API. Without the stack trace, installed version, and surrounding code, the title alone cannot identify the cause.
Increase the timeout for the slow operation
Slow navigation
Set a timeout on the individual navigation when only that page needs extra time. Puppeteer documents navigation timeouts for methods including page.goto(); its waitUntil condition should reflect what the capture actually needs.

Slow selector or readiness wait
If navigation completes but the screenshot depends on a late element, give the wait itself an appropriate timeout. waitForSelector() throws if the selector does not appear before that timeout.

Choose between a per-call timeout and a default

Prefer the narrowest setting that addresses the failure. A per-operation timeout makes it clearer which step exceeded its budget. The documented default maximum for wait options is 30,000 milliseconds; passing 0 disables that wait timeout. Use an unbounded wait only when another reliable cancellation or job limit exists.

What to do if the screenshot call itself stalls
Puppeteer’s current Page.screenshot() method reference and ScreenshotOptions do not document a screenshot-specific timeout parameter. Those options cover capture and output choices such as full-page capture, clipping, encoding, output path, quality, and image type. Do not assume that setDefaultTimeout() or setDefaultNavigationTimeout() makes the screenshot call time out later or run longer.
If the stack identifies page.screenshot(), inspect the exact installed Puppeteer version and the browser process, page dimensions, capture settings, and any outer runner or wrapper limit. The official references do not establish one universal fix for a screenshot promise that stalls.
