Puppeteer’s page.pdf() supports 11 named paper presets: Letter, Legal, Tabloid, Ledger, and ISO A0 through A6. Set one with format; for an unlisted size, provide width and height with units. In Puppeteer 25.12.0, format takes precedence over those dimensions, while preferCSSPageSize: true lets CSS @page control the sheet size.

The Puppeteer 25.12.0 PaperFormat reference lists these presets and dimensions:

Use the conventional capitalization shown in the table, such as format: 'A4' or format: 'Letter'. The type also permits uppercase, lowercase, and capitalized variants. These are PDF page dimensions supported by Puppeteer; they do not guarantee that a particular printer, tray, or print provider can handle every size.
Set a preset, orientation, and margins
Pass the desired paper preset to page.pdf(). Orientation and margins are separate settings. For example, this Node.js snippet generates an A4 portrait PDF with 12 mm margins:

});landscape defaults to false. Set it to true to print the page sideways; it changes orientation rather than selecting a different preset. For example, use format: 'A4', landscape: true for landscape A4. The PDFOptions reference documents no margins as the default, so specify a margin object when the output needs them.
Use custom PDF dimensions
When none of the named presets matches the required sheet, omit format and set width and height. Each accepts a number or a string with a unit; explicit units make the intended measurements clear. For example:

});That example supplies the dimensions directly instead of naming a preset. Do not combine it with format expecting the dimensions to win: if format is set, Puppeteer gives it precedence over width and height.

For print layouts whose size is defined in CSS, declare it with @page and enable preferCSSPageSize:

}With preferCSSPageSize: true, the CSS page size takes priority. The option defaults to false; when it is false, Puppeteer scales content to fit the paper size specified through its PDF options. Avoid setting competing sizes in CSS and in the options unless the precedence is intentional.
Print CSS and color behavior
page.pdf() generates the PDF using the print CSS media type, as described in Puppeteer’s Page.pdf() reference. If the page should use screen styles instead, emulate that media type before generating the PDF:

If exact colors matter to the design, use the CSS property -webkit-print-color-adjust to force exact color rendering. Media type and color adjustments affect layout and appearance; they are separate from the selected paper dimensions.
Troubleshoot size and layout mismatches
- The PDF has the wrong dimensions: Check for
formatin the PDF options. It takes priority overwidthandheight. If CSS should control size, use@pageand setpreferCSSPageSize: true. - The page is scaled unexpectedly: With
preferCSSPageSizeleft false, Puppeteer scales content to fit the configured paper size. Enable the option when CSS@pageshould determine the physical page size. - The page is rotated unexpectedly: Check the
landscapesetting. It defaults to false; set it to true only when a sideways page is intended. - Margins are not what the layout expects: Set each side explicitly with the
marginoption. Puppeteer documents no margins as the default. - Colors or styles differ from the browser view: PDF output uses print media by default and print color adjustments can change colors. Emulate screen media when appropriate, or use
-webkit-print-color-adjustwhen exact colors are required.
Version context
The preset names, dimensions, and PDF option behavior above are from Puppeteer’s 25.12.0 API references. Its supported browsers page maps that release to Chrome for Testing 154.0.8037.57 and Firefox 156.0.1. Those browser versions are context for that documented Puppeteer release, not a guarantee about every installed package. If you use another Puppeteer version, check its matching documentation.

Does Puppeteer support US Letter and A4?
Yes. Both are named presets: use format: 'Letter' or format: 'A4'.
Are Tabloid and Ledger the same orientation?
No. Puppeteer lists Tabloid as 11 × 17 inches and Ledger as 17 × 11 inches.
