Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Setting fullPage: true makes Puppeteer capture the page’s full dimensions; it does not, by itself, make every lazy-loaded image or section appear. Scroll through the page first so viewport-triggered loading can run, wait for a page-specific sign that the intended content is ready, then capture and inspect the result.
Why full-page capture can still miss content
Many pages defer images or other content until the relevant area approaches the viewport. A full-page screenshot controls the capture dimensions, but does not promise to trigger every site’s lazy-loading behavior. Likewise, a quiet network is not proof that the application has finished rendering all deferred content.
The reliable sequence is to navigate, scroll through the page or relevant nested scroller, wait for evidence that the target content has loaded, and only then take the screenshot.
A practical Puppeteer workflow
1. Navigate and scroll through the content
This runnable starting point uses Puppeteer’s browser launcher and a page-specific readiness selector. Replace the URL and selector with ones that match your page. Install Puppeteer in your project with npm install puppeteer.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.

const puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
(async () => {
const url = 'https://example.com/long-page';
const browser = await puppeteer.launch({ headless: true });
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.setViewport({ width: 1365, height: 900 });
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
// Scroll in viewport-sized increments to trigger scroll-based loading.
await page.evaluate(async () => {
const step = Math.max(300, Math.floor(window.innerHeight * 0.8));
let previousHeight = 0;
for (let pass = 0; pass < 20; pass++) {
const height = document.documentElement.scrollHeight;
for (let y = 0; y < height; y += step) {
window.scrollTo(0, y);
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 150));
}
window.scrollTo(0, document.documentElement.scrollHeight);
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 150));
const newHeight = document.documentElement.scrollHeight;
if (newHeight === previousHeight) break;
previousHeight = newHeight;
}
});
// Prefer a selector that means the actual target content is ready.
await page.locator('[data-page-ready="true"]').wait();
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
The example’s selector is illustrative: if the site has no readiness marker, replace it with a meaningful condition such as the appearance of the last expected section, an expected item count, or disappearance of a loading indicator. The bounded scroll loop avoids waiting forever on pages that keep growing, but may need adjustment for a particular site. Its 150 ms pause is a starting value, not a guarantee.
2. Capture only after checking the readiness signal
fullPage is false by default; set it to true to request the full page. Puppeteer’s screenshot guide demonstrates navigation with waitUntil: 'networkidle2' before capture, but a navigation lifecycle wait is only one signal. Use a page-specific content condition when possible.
Choose a wait strategy that matches the page
| Strategy | What it helps establish | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Scroll through the page | Gives viewport-based loading behavior a chance to run in the page or scroller being traversed. | That every deferred item finished loading or that an infinite list has a natural end. |
| Wait for a selector, count, or end marker | That a specific application-level condition has been met. | That unrelated images or sections are also ready unless the condition covers them. |
waitForNetworkIdle() |
That network activity has been idle for the configured interval. | That the application has rendered every deferred element. Polling or persistent requests may also prevent the wait from completing. |
networkidle0 or networkidle2 |
Lifecycle events based on zero or at most two network connections, respectively, sustained for 500 ms. | That all page content is complete; these thresholds describe network state, not application readiness. |
ElementHandle.screenshot() |
Captures a known element, scrolling it into view if necessary. | That every offscreen item on the page has been triggered or loaded. |
Puppeteer’s locator scrolling uses mouse-wheel events, and its locator waits can target visibility or a function-based condition. These can be useful when content lives in an element with its own scroll area. If you use window.scrollTo, as in the example, it only traverses the main document; it will not scroll a nested container on the site’s behalf.

Handle nested scrollers and pages that keep growing
Content inside a nested scroll area
Identify the container that actually scrolls, then scroll that element rather than only the window. Puppeteer locators support scrolling an element with scrollTop and scrollLeft. After scrolling, wait for a condition tied to the new content before continuing. A full-page capture of the document may not represent the full contents of a separately scrollable panel; if the panel itself is the target, consider capturing that element.
Infinite scrolling
An infinite list may add more items every time you approach its end, so “scroll until the height stops changing” can run indefinitely or never describe a meaningful finish. Set a stopping condition based on the task: for example, a known item count, a specific final record, or a maximum number of scroll passes. If there is no known end, decide explicitly how much content the screenshot should include.
Validate the screenshot
- Open the resulting image and confirm that the last expected section is present.
- Check important images, not just text: image requests or rendering may be deferred separately.
- If content is missing, identify whether it was never triggered, was still loading, or belongs to a nested scroller; adjust scrolling or the readiness condition accordingly.
- For a specific target element, use an element screenshot rather than treating it as a substitute for loading the entire page.
Common problems and fixes
The screenshot ends before the expected content
Likely cause: the page changed height after the initial scroll measurement, or the loading trigger was not reached. Fix: repeat bounded scroll passes while checking for new content, and stop on a meaningful page-specific condition rather than relying only on the first document height.

Network idle times out or never occurs
Likely cause: the page has continuing network activity, or the chosen idle interval is not reached. Fix: do not use network idle as the only readiness check. Wait for the relevant selector, count, or loading-state change instead; if using waitForNetworkIdle(), configure a timeout appropriate to the page and handle timeout deliberately.
Some images are blank
Likely cause: the images were not requested or rendered before capture, despite the page having been scrolled. Fix: scroll the relevant areas, wait for image-specific or section-specific readiness where feasible, and inspect the output. A network-idle event alone does not prove every image is present.

Does Puppeteer’s fullPage: true trigger lazy loading?
No. It requests a capture of the page’s full dimensions, but you should scroll through the relevant content first to trigger viewport-based loading.

Is networkidle2 enough to prove the page is ready?
No. It indicates a network lifecycle threshold, not that the application has rendered every deferred element. Use a page-specific readiness condition when possible.
Can an element screenshot load the whole long page?
No. ElementHandle.screenshot() scrolls a known element into view before capturing that element; it does not imply that other offscreen content has loaded.
