Choose PULSE Elite if you want the longer stated battery life, PlayStation Link switching between supported devices, simultaneous Bluetooth audio, or a retractable boom microphone. Choose PULSE 3D if you mainly need Sony’s wireless PS5/PS4 headset with onboard game/chat controls and a 3.5 mm option for PS VR or mobile.
Those recommendations are based on Sony’s published features and specifications. They are not a controlled comparison of sound quality, microphone performance, comfort, durability, or long-term reliability. Your console, devices, games, and priorities should determine the choice.

Pulse Elite vs PULSE 3D at a glance
Both headsets are designed for PlayStation 3D Audio and use a USB wireless adapter for console and computer connectivity. The major difference is what each model does beyond basic wireless game audio: PULSE Elite is the more flexible, longer-running model, while PULSE 3D is the simpler PS5/PS4-focused headset with physical game/chat controls and a wired fallback.

Which headset is better for different buyers?
Pick PULSE Elite for flexibility and fewer charging interruptions
PULSE Elite is the stronger fit if one headset must serve a PS5, a computer, a handheld PlayStation Portal session and a phone. Its PlayStation Link adapter is intended for PS5, PC and Mac, and PlayStation Link support extends to PlayStation Portal. Bluetooth works directly with phones and tablets, so you do not need a second headset for calls, music or a video on a mobile device.
The simultaneous-audio feature is particularly useful when you want game sound over PlayStation Link while hearing a phone call, chat app or other Bluetooth source. That is a capability distinction, not a claim that every app or device will mix audio identically; software and device behavior can affect the result.
Pick PULSE 3D for a straightforward PS5/PS4 setup
PULSE 3D makes sense when your main requirement is wireless audio from a PS5 or PS4 and you value dedicated game/chat mixing and microphone monitoring on the headset itself. Its adapter also supports compatible Windows and macOS computers. The 3.5 mm connection adds a practical fallback for PS VR or mobile use, although Sony says the headset’s built-in controls are not supported when used in those wired situations.

Do not choose solely on “planar” or “3D Audio” terminology
Elite’s planar magnetic drivers and PULSE 3D’s PlayStation tuning describe different design approaches, but neither specification proves a universal sound-quality winner. Sony describes Elite as enhancing perception in PS5 games that support 3D Audio and says PULSE 3D is specifically tuned for the 3D Audio made possible by PS5. The game must support the relevant 3D Audio features, and personal hearing, fit and equalizer preferences still matter.
Battery life and charging
PULSE Elite: up to 30 hours
Sony rates PULSE Elite for up to 30 hours of use and states that a 10-minute charge provides up to two hours of use. The short-charge figure is useful before a long session, but both numbers are ceilings under Sony’s stated test conditions rather than a promise of what every owner will see. Louder volume, microphone activity and wireless conditions can reduce runtime.
PULSE 3D: up to 12 hours at mid volume
The PULSE 3D instruction manual specifies up to 12 hours at mid volume. Because this qualification is explicit, it should not be compared with Elite as though both were measured under an identical laboratory test. In practical terms, Elite has a much larger stated endurance margin, while PULSE 3D owners should plan more frequent charging if they play for long stretches.

What the battery difference means in daily use
- For multi-day play between charges, Elite’s 30-hour claim is the more convenient target.
- For occasional evening sessions near a console, PULSE 3D’s stated 12 hours may be sufficient if you remember to recharge it.
- Elite’s 10-minute quick-charge claim is valuable when the headset is nearly empty and a session is about to start.
- Neither claim establishes battery longevity after months or years of use; long-term reliability was not established in the available specifications.
Wireless connections and supported devices
How PULSE Elite connects
PULSE Elite includes a PlayStation Link USB adapter. Sony identifies PlayStation Link support for PS5, PC, Mac and PlayStation Portal. The same headset also connects directly to Bluetooth phones and tablets. This combination means you can move among supported PlayStation Link devices without relying exclusively on a console adapter and can use the headset for ordinary mobile audio.
Elite can play PlayStation Link and Bluetooth audio simultaneously. That is the key advantage for users who keep a phone connected while gaming: game audio can remain on the PlayStation connection while a second Bluetooth source supplies audio. The exact mix and controls can vary with the connected device and software.
How PULSE 3D connects
PULSE 3D’s included wireless adaptor supports PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows/macOS computers. The cited Sony product information does not list direct Bluetooth connectivity. If your phone or tablet is central to your headset use, you would need to use the 3.5 mm cable where supported rather than pairing wirelessly.
PlayStation Link versus a conventional USB wireless adapter
The practical distinction is device ecosystem rather than a simple “better wireless” label. Elite’s PlayStation Link support is built around newer PlayStation devices and includes Portal, while PULSE 3D’s adapter is explicitly documented for PS5, PS4 and compatible computers. Check the exact device and regional product documentation if your setup includes equipment outside those lists; compatibility can depend on software and product revision.
Audio positioning and 3D Audio support
What both headsets have in common
Both models are intended to work with PlayStation 3D Audio. PULSE 3D is described by Sony as being specifically tuned for the 3D Audio made possible by PS5. In games that implement 3D Audio correctly, the console and game processing—not just the headset—contribute to the sense of direction and space.
What Elite’s planar magnetic drivers tell you
Elite uses planar magnetic drivers and Sony says they enhance perception in PS5 games that support 3D Audio. Planar magnetic technology is a driver design, not an independent measurement of frequency response, distortion or imaging. It therefore cannot establish that Elite will sound better to every listener than PULSE 3D.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

What the published evidence cannot answer
No controlled listening test, frequency-response chart, distortion measurement or independent positional-audio study was identified for these two models together. Treat sound quality as a personal and game-dependent factor. If your decision is based mainly on music playback, competitive positional cues or a preferred tonal balance, arrange a return option or consult testing that specifically measures those points rather than inferring them from the product names.
Microphones and controls
PULSE Elite’s retractable boom
Elite has an adjustable retractable boom microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection. The boom can be positioned closer to your mouth for chat and retracted when you are not talking. Easy-access mute and volume controls are part of the design.
Those are feature descriptions, not proof that Elite’s voice quality is superior. The available evidence does not include a side-by-side microphone recording, noise-floor measurement or test in a loud room.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPULSE 3D’s built-in microphones
PULSE 3D uses two built-in noise-cancelling microphones. Its dedicated mic-monitoring button lets you hear your own voice, and game/chat mix controls are available on the headset. These controls are useful if you frequently rebalance a game against party conversation without opening a console menu.
Which microphone layout fits you?
- Choose the Elite format if you prefer a visible, adjustable boom that can be moved out of the way.
- Choose PULSE 3D if you want a cleaner, boom-free appearance and direct mic monitoring and game/chat controls.
- Do not treat AI noise rejection or “noise-cancelling” wording as a guarantee of clearer speech in every room; placement, background noise and voice-chat processing still matter.
Wired use and what is included
PULSE 3D’s 3.5 mm fallback
Sony lists a 3.5 mm cable path for PULSE 3D with PS VR and mobile devices. In those wired contexts, Sony warns that the headset’s built-in controls are not supported. You should therefore expect to manage volume, chat or playback from the connected device when the cable is used.
PULSE Elite’s package
The PlayStation Direct store listing identifies a PlayStation Link USB adapter and a charging hanger in the Elite package. The supplied information does not identify a comparable 3.5 mm wired mode for Elite, so buyers who specifically need analog PS VR or mobile use should verify the current package and connection documentation before choosing it.

Weight, fit and comfort
The PULSE 3D instruction manual lists a headset weight of 292 g. Sony’s Elite safety-guide specification lists approximately 347 g. That makes Elite about 55 g heavier by the published figures.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Weight alone does not determine comfort. Clamp force, ear-pad shape, headband pressure, heat, glasses and the way a headset balances its mass can matter more than the number on a scale. No controlled comfort trial or long-term wear comparison was established for these models. If you are sensitive to weight, PULSE 3D’s lower stated figure is a relevant consideration, but it is not a guarantee that it will fit you better.
Price and value without a misleading number
Current US pricing, stock and regional promotions were not established in the available product material, so a fixed price verdict would quickly become unreliable. Compare the live price in your country at the time of purchase and account for what is in the box.
Value depends on whether you will use Elite’s additional capabilities. Its longer stated battery, PlayStation Link device coverage, simultaneous Bluetooth audio and boom microphone can justify paying more for a multi-device setup. If you will only connect to a PS5 or PS4, use game/chat controls and occasionally plug into PS VR or a phone, PULSE 3D may deliver the features you actually need without paying for functions you will not use.

Setting up PULSE Elite
- Connect the supplied PlayStation Link USB adapter to the PS5, PC or Mac you intend to use.
- Turn on the headset and complete the PlayStation Link pairing process described in the current product instructions.
- For a phone or tablet, use the headset’s Bluetooth pairing procedure instead of the PlayStation Link adapter.
- If you want two sources at once, keep the PlayStation Link connection active and add the Bluetooth device; verify the audio balance on both devices.
- For PlayStation Portal, use the supported PlayStation Link connection and confirm that the Portal and headset software are current.
Setting up PULSE 3D
- Insert the included wireless adaptor into the PS5, PS4 or compatible Windows/macOS computer.
- Power on the headset and follow the pairing instructions supplied with the headset and adaptor.
- Use the physical game/chat controls and mic-monitoring button on the headset while playing.
- For PS VR or mobile use, connect the 3.5 mm cable and adjust audio from the connected device, because the built-in headset controls are not supported in those wired contexts.
Menu wording and pairing behavior can change with console software and product revisions. If an adapter is not recognized, test another USB port, restart the console or computer, and consult the current Sony instructions for that exact revision rather than assuming the headset is defective.
Common buying mistakes
Assuming Elite is automatically the better-sounding headset
Planar magnetic drivers and a newer product do not constitute a controlled sound comparison. Buy Elite for its documented features and your priorities, not for an unproven universal sound-quality promise.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Comparing battery numbers as laboratory results
Elite’s “up to 30 hours” and PULSE 3D’s “up to 12 hours at mid volume” come from different Sony documents and conditions. Use them as planning figures, not guaranteed runtime.
Forgetting the wired-control limitation on PULSE 3D
The 3.5 mm option is useful for PS VR and mobile, but the built-in controls do not operate in those wired contexts. Make sure that limitation fits how you intend to use the cable.
Ignoring device compatibility
PULSE 3D’s adapter is documented for PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows/macOS computers. Elite adds PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac through PlayStation Link plus direct Bluetooth for phones and tablets. If your setup includes another device, verify support before purchasing.

Choosing by weight alone
Elite’s approximately 347 g specification and PULSE 3D’s 292 g specification provide context, but they do not predict clamp, heat or fit for your head. Consider return policies if comfort is a deciding factor.
Bottom-line recommendation
For most feature-focused buyers, PULSE Elite is the more capable headset: it offers the longer stated battery life, rapid-charge claim, PlayStation Link coverage for PS5, PC, Mac and Portal, direct Bluetooth, simultaneous audio and a retractable boom microphone.
PULSE 3D remains the better-targeted choice when your setup centers on PS5 or PS4, you want physical game/chat mixing and mic monitoring, or you need a 3.5 mm connection for PS VR or mobile. Neither model can be declared the sound, microphone or comfort winner from Sony’s feature documentation alone.
