An empty battery takes approximately 2.5 hours to charge fully, and Sony says a 10-minute charge provides about two hours of use. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
For a PS5, connect the included PlayStation Link USB adapter to a powered USB Type-A port, press the headset’s PS Link button, and wait for the indicators to turn solid. Most connection and update problems are resolved by checking the adapter, updating both devices, re-pairing, and then using the headset or adapter reset procedures described below.

How long does the PULSE Elite battery last?
Sony rates the PULSE Elite for up to 30 hours while playing audio and chatting over PlayStation Link and Bluetooth at 77°F (25°C). “Up to” is important: your runtime can differ with volume, microphone use, wireless conditions, temperature, and battery age. Sony’s figure is a product specification rather than a measured independent review result.
When the battery is empty, Sony says a full charge takes approximately 2.5 hours. A short top-up is useful in an emergency: a 10-minute charge is specified to provide about two hours of use. The headset can be used while it remains connected to a USB charging device.

On a PS5, you can also open the Control Center and select Accessories to view the headset’s battery level.
How to charge it
- Connect the included USB cable to the headset and a compatible, powered USB-A port.
- While charging, the indicator slowly blinks orange.
- When charging finishes, the indicator turns off.
Charging from a PS5 in Rest Mode works only when the console’s setting for supplying power to USB devices in Rest Mode is enabled. Sony also documents the optional PULSE Elite charging hanger as another charging method.
How do I connect PULSE Elite to a PS5?
The included PlayStation Link USB adapter is already paired with the headset for the initial PS5 setup. You do not need to create a new pairing for the first connection.

- Turn on the PS5.
- Insert the included PlayStation Link USB adapter fully into a powered PS5 USB Type-A port.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button.
- Watch the indicator while it searches. The headset blinks blue during the search and shows solid indicators when it connects.
A search lasts about 30 seconds. If no available connection is found, the headset turns off. Press the PS Link button again to start another search. If the headset still does not connect, use the troubleshooting sequence below rather than repeatedly pressing the button.
Which devices can use PULSE Elite, and which connection should I choose?
PULSE Elite uses two different wireless transports. PlayStation Link requires a compatible PlayStation Link adapter or supported device; Bluetooth pairs directly with a compatible mobile device. The host device determines which settings and update tools are available.

Bluetooth pairing steps
- On the mobile device, open Bluetooth settings and start the device search.
- Hold the headset’s PS Link button for approximately eight seconds.
- Release it when the status indicator rapidly blinks blue, which indicates pairing mode.
- Select PULSE Elite in the mobile device’s Bluetooth list and complete the pairing prompt.
Do not assume that Bluetooth and PlayStation Link audio can play simultaneously through PULSE Elite. Sony’s PlayStation Link documentation gives a simultaneous-use example for PULSE Explore earbuds, not for this headset, so that behavior is not established here.

What do the PULSE Elite lights mean?

How do I update the PULSE Elite headset and adapter?
Update through a PS5
- Connect the PlayStation Link adapter to the PS5 and turn on the console.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Accessories.
- Select Headset.
- Open PS Link Device Software Update.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the headset and adapter.
Sony also says PlayStation Link updates can be added when PS5 system software is updated, so keeping the console current can deliver device software as part of the normal system-update process.

On Windows, Sony’s PlayStation Link PC Driver can update both the PULSE Elite headset and its PlayStation Link USB adapter without using a PS5. Connect the adapter and headset as instructed by the driver, then apply any offered device software update. A Mac can use the adapter for audio, but Sony documents the Windows PC Driver as the update route.
PS Link 2.0 requirement
For connection troubleshooting involving PlayStation Link 2.0, Sony says the headset and the included adapter should both run software version 2.0 or newer. Updating only one side can leave the pair unable to connect, so update both devices before attempting another pairing.

Why won’t my PULSE Elite connect?
Work through these checks in order. Stop once the connection is restored; the later reset steps are more disruptive.
1. Check power and the adapter
- Confirm that the PS5 or computer is turned on.
- Make sure the PlayStation Link USB adapter is fully inserted in a compatible, powered USB port.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button and allow the blue search to complete.
- If the 30-second search timed out, press PS Link again to retry.
2. Update both sides and re-pair
Install current software for the headset and adapter. For a PS Link 2.0 issue, verify that each is version 2.0 or newer. After updating, re-pair the headset and adapter using Sony’s pairing procedure for the host device.
3. Perform the non-destructive headset reset
- Hold the headset’s PS Link button for at least 10 seconds.
- Keep holding until the headset powers off.
- Press PS Link to turn it on again.
This reset does not remove PlayStation Link or Bluetooth pairings and does not erase audio settings, making it the appropriate first reset when ordinary reconnecting fails.

4. Erase pairings only when necessary
Sony documents a separate two-stage hold procedure that wipes the headset’s PlayStation Link and Bluetooth pairings and deletes audio settings. Because this is a data-erasing operation, use it only after updating and performing the 10-second reset. You will need to pair the headset again with each device afterward.
5. Reset the PlayStation Link adapter
To reset the adapter, keep it connected to a powered, matching USB port and hold the adapter’s reset button for 30 seconds. This is separate from the headset reset; resetting one does not substitute for resetting the other.
What should I do if the headset pops after humidity exposure?
Sony notes that high humidity can allow moisture to develop on the headset drivers. That moisture may cause occasional popping even when the headset is powered off. The symptom does not by itself prove a hardware failure.
- Turn the headset off.
- Place it in a well-ventilated area for 10–15 minutes.
- Try audio again after that ventilation period.
This is Sony’s troubleshooting advice for the described humidity condition, not a guarantee that every popping sound has the same cause. If popping continues without a humidity exposure, continue with the connection and update checks or seek PlayStation support.

- Still failing: perform the 10-second headset reset, which preserves pairings.
- Pairings or audio settings are corrupted: use Sony’s separate pairing-wipe procedure, then pair every device again.
- Adapter-specific failure: hold its reset button for 30 seconds while it is connected to a powered matching USB port.
- Popping after humidity: power off and ventilate for 10–15 minutes before testing again.
