Sony’s PS5 system software version 26.06-14.10.00 brings security fixes and general performance and stability improvements, according to its official notes. PlayStation LifeStyle reported that the update rolled out on October 1, 2026; Sony’s notes do not identify a new feature, a specific security issue, or a measured performance change.
What the PS5 26.06-14.10.00 update changes
Sony lists two items for version 26.06-14.10.00 on its PS5 system software features page:

Those are the complete listed notes for this release. Sony does not say which security weakness was addressed, quantify any performance or stability improvement, or describe a new user-facing feature.

PlayStation LifeStyle reported on October 1, 2026 that Sony rolled out version 26.06-14.10.00 that day. Sony’s feature page confirms the version and patch notes but does not give a rollout date.

Does the update block a jailbreak?
That has not been confirmed. PlayStation LifeStyle speculated that the security fixes could be aimed at blocking a jailbreak, but Sony’s published notes only say that it made security fixes. They do not name a jailbreak, exploit, or other specific vulnerability.
How to install the update on PS5
Update through the console
For a routine update, use the PS5’s built-in system software updater:

- Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- Select Update System Software if an update is available, then follow the on-screen prompts.
You do not need a USB drive for the ordinary in-console update.
If the download stalls or fails
For a stalled download, press the PS button to open Downloads/Uploads, select the update, choose View Error Info, then select Try Again.

If downloads fail repeatedly, Sony provides a manual update option using a PC or Mac and USB storage. Follow Sony’s official USB update instructions and use the official update file:
- Format a USB drive as FAT32 or exFAT. Sony says approximately 1.1 GB of free space is needed.
- Create a folder named
PS5on the drive, then a folder namedUPDATEinside it. - Download Sony’s official update file and save it in the
UPDATEfolder with the filenamePS5UPDATE.PUP. - Connect the drive to the PS5. Turn off the console, then enter Safe Mode by holding the power button until you hear the second beep.
- Select Update System Software > Update from USB Storage Device and follow the prompts.
Sony describes this USB method as a fallback when downloads repeatedly fail, not as a required step for routine updates. Its separate system-software reinstallation process deletes console data; do not choose reinstallation when you only need to install an update.
