PS5 Pro comes with a 2 TB built-in SSD, but it does not include an optical disc drive. If you want to play PS5 games installed on extra storage, add a compatible internal M.2 SSD; an external USB drive is for PS4 gameplay and storing PS5 games to transfer back later. The removable Disc Drive and several PS5 accessories are optional, and compatibility depends on the specific item.
Is the PS5 Pro’s 2 TB built-in storage enough?
Sony lists PS5 Pro with a 2 TB SSD. That is the console’s published capacity, not a promise that the full amount will be available for games. Whether it is enough depends on how many large games you keep installed and whether you regularly uninstall titles you are not playing.

How do I add storage to PS5 Pro?
Choose an internal M.2 SSD to play more PS5 games directly
A compatible internal M.2 SSD lets you install and play PS5 games from the added drive. Sony’s storage guidance supports M.2 expansion up to 8 TB across PS5 consoles; that is a stated maximum, not a guarantee that every drive at that capacity will fit or work. Check Sony’s current requirements for drive type, speed, dimensions, and heat dissipation before buying. A “Gen4” label alone is not enough to confirm compatibility.

Use external USB storage for PS4 games or PS5 game archiving
Sony lists supported external USB storage capacities from 250 GB to 8 TB. You can play compatible PS4 games directly from the USB drive. You can also store compatible PS5 games there, but you must transfer a PS5 game back to console storage before playing it. External USB storage therefore suits an archive or an existing PS4 library; it does not replace an internal M.2 SSD for playing PS5 games from added storage.

Does PS5 Pro have a disc drive?
No optical drive is included in the PS5 Pro setup described by Sony. You can buy Sony’s removable PS5 Disc Drive separately. It is worth considering if you own physical PS5 games, supported PS4 discs, or want to watch 4K Blu-ray or DVD discs. Sony’s setup guide describes those supported disc uses; it does not promise compatibility with every legacy disc.

For digital-only gaming and video streaming, the drive is not necessary. Sony’s US product page says an internet connection is required to pair the Disc Drive with the console during setup, so plan for online access when installing it. Product availability and listings can differ by region; check the current local Sony listing before purchase.

Do not assume an accessory fits because it worked with an earlier PS5. Check the model group and product packaging or listing; the vertical stand is relevant if you plan to place the console vertically, while stand feet are for horizontal placement. Will every game look or run better on PS5 Pro?
No. Sony says enhancements vary by game, so do not assume every title receives the same resolution, frame-rate, or ray-tracing improvements.
