If a PS5 game will not download or install, start with the reversible checks: pause and resume the download, check PlayStation Network status and the console’s internet connection, then confirm the game has enough storage. If the game is locked or missing, check the account and license rather than treating it as a network problem. Use Safe Mode only after these simpler steps, and look up any displayed error code.
If the download has not started, restart the queue item
- Open Downloads/Uploads in the PS5 Control Center.
- Select the game download, choose Pause, then select Resume.
- If it still will not start, cancel and delete the queued item. Open Game Library, find the game, and try downloading it again.

If the download is stuck, check service and connection separately
Check PlayStation Network status
Visit the PlayStation Network service status page. If it reports an alert, wait for service to recover and retry. Repeatedly deleting or reinstalling the game is unlikely to help while the service is disrupted.

On the console, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status and test the connection. Network connectivity and PlayStation service availability are separate checks: either can interrupt a download. If the console reports an internet problem, follow PlayStation’s connection troubleshooting guidance.

If installation fails, compare the game’s space requirement with free storage
Check the title’s stated minimum free-space requirement before retrying a large download or installation:
- In Game Library, select the game.
- Open its more/options menu and choose View Product to see the minimum free space.
- Go to Settings > Storage and compare that requirement with the available space.
- If space is short, free storage and retry the installation.
PlayStation also documents a commercially available M.2 SSD as an option to add storage for game and app data. It is an expansion option when space is genuinely insufficient—not a fix for a network interruption, service outage, account entitlement, or software issue. Check Sony’s current M.2 SSD installation and compatibility guidance before choosing or installing a drive.

Update PS5 system software
Check for an available system software update at Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Install an available update, then retry the download or installation.

- PlayStation Plus: If the game came through Plus, make sure the subscription and access to that title remain valid.
- Another account owns the game: Check that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled for the account that owns it.
- License issue: Restore licenses using PlayStation’s instructions if the purchase is valid but the game still appears locked or unavailable.

Use Safe Mode only if the simpler checks do not work
For persistent download problems, PlayStation recommends using Safe Mode and selecting Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Follow the current official PS5 Safe Mode instructions and select the appropriate option. Rebuilding the database is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed repair.

Look up the exact error code and contact support if needed
If an error code appears, search the exact code in PlayStation’s error-code index; code-specific instructions may be more useful than general checks. For example, PlayStation describes CE-107928-7 as: “An error has occurred that stopped the game from downloading on your PlayStation®5 console.”
If the problem remains unresolved, contact PlayStation Support. Include the error code or message, what you were doing and the steps that reproduce the issue, the time you tried, and a screenshot or video if possible.
