KytyPS5 is the most practical starting point in this comparison if you want to experiment with PS5 emulation on a PC. Its maintainers say it can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D games, but that does not mean games are broadly or reliably playable. As of October 4, 2026, the projects covered here remain experimental, and results depend on the game and emulator build.
Is there a PS5 emulator for PC that works?
Some projects can boot or render selected software, but dependable gameplay across a broad range of commercial PS5 games is not established. A game reaching a menu—or rendering for a few frames—is not the same as running through gameplay stably.

The most useful way to assess a claim is to look for a report about your exact game on the exact emulator build you plan to use. The KytyPS5 project README points to community test results and warns that compatibility, stability, and performance vary between versions; crashes and graphical glitches may occur. Treat demonstrations as evidence about that particular game and build, not a general performance guarantee.

Which PS5 emulator should you try?
For hands-on experimentation, start by checking KytyPS5’s current compatibility information for the title you care about. Then confirm that the report corresponds to a build you can obtain. The project warns that results can change between versions, so an older success report may not describe current behavior.

Before investing time in setup, distinguish the result you actually need:
- Boot: the software starts, but may not progress further.
- Render: graphics appear, possibly only briefly or with major errors.
- Reach a menu: the title loads to a menu, but gameplay may still fail.
- Enter gameplay: a playable scene appears, but stability and performance remain open questions.
- Stable play: the game runs consistently through the parts you want to play; an isolated demonstration does not establish this.
Recent reporting has described Kyty demonstrations reaching real-time gameplay, including a reported 30-fps demonstration, alongside uneven performance and stability. That figure describes a reported demonstration, not a typical result, minimum, or promise for other games or systems.

What PC specs do you need for PS5 emulation?
No universal minimum PC specification or guaranteed playable frame rate is established by the sources reviewed here. A system requirement quoted without a particular game, emulator build, and measured test conditions would imply more certainty than the available evidence supports. Check the project’s current documentation and game-specific reports rather than treating a single hardware configuration as a guarantee.

Operating-system support is also project-specific. KytyPS5 identifies Windows and Linux as its primary tested platforms and macOS as experimental; the original Kyty README lists Windows 10 x64. ShadPS5’s multi-platform ambition does not establish that games are playable on each platform.

Can you use a controller with a PC emulator?
A DualSense controller is optional. Sony documents connecting it to Windows 10 and Windows 11 by Bluetooth or USB, while noting that features depend on the device and game. See Sony’s PlayStation gaming on PC support for connection guidance. That Windows support does not establish that a particular emulator recognizes every controller feature; check the emulator’s own input support. A controller does not improve compatibility or performance.
