There is no confirmed way to play Grand Theft Auto VI on a PC this year. Rockstar and Take-Two list GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with a November 19, 2026 launch date, and neither has announced a PC version or a PC release date. PS5 emulation is moving forward, but the most recent progress has been reported on GTA V, not GTA VI, and even that result remains unstable.
What is confirmed about GTA VI’s platforms and launch
Rockstar’s support page lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and its game page gives November 19, 2026 as the coming release date. Take-Two’s release lineup shows the same platforms and date. Neither source lists a PC edition.

That silence is the current position, not a ruling. It does not rule out a future PC version, and it is not a basis for predicting a PC release date from Rockstar’s earlier games. A PC release date is not established until Rockstar or Take-Two announces one.

- Rockstar recommends buying and playing through a retailer in the country associated with the platform account to avoid activation problems.
Sony’s description of the PS5 version
Mary Yee, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, wrote on PlayStation.Blog: “Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19.” This is a promotional description of a platform partnership. It is not an independent performance comparison, so “plays best” should be read as Sony’s claim.

What PS5 emulation has actually reached
Three sources describe the current state of PS5 emulation on PC. They measure different things, and only one of them touches a Rockstar game.

Tom’s Hardware’s July 2026 coverage described the broader PS5 emulation field as early and noted that emulation takes a long time to perfect. That is the publication’s assessment, not a developer commitment or a schedule for any game. The September report shows real movement since then, but it still does not show GTA VI running.

Why GTA V results do not show GTA VI will run
Every result above concerns GTA V or an unnamed set of games. None of them tests GTA VI, and the KytyPS5 README does not list GTA VI as compatible. A GTA V demonstration can show that an emulator is progressing, but it cannot establish whether a newer, separate game will boot, run stably or perform acceptably. Treat any claim that GTA VI “works” on PS5 emulation as unsupported until a GTA VI-specific result appears from a named source.

Nothing published establishes it. The launch is set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no official PC announcement exists in the sources described above. A PC version this year would need an announcement from Rockstar or Take-Two, and readers should treat any date that has not come from one of them as speculation.

Signs that would change this picture include an official PC announcement from Rockstar or Take-Two, or a GTA VI entry appearing in the KytyPS5 project’s own compatibility documentation. Until one of those appears, emulation news about other games is not evidence about GTA VI.
Choosing a path based on what you want
- You want to play at launch: choose PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. These are the confirmed platforms. Check the region rules for boxed download codes before buying.
- You specifically want PC: wait for an official announcement. Emulation is not a current route to GTA VI.
- You are happy to troubleshoot: emulator experiments on other games carry instability, lag and crashes, and results depend heavily on the build, operating system and hardware. Expect results to change as builds change.
The sources do not provide console or PC hardware prices, so a cost comparison between these options cannot be made from them.
