The available evidence does not establish that you can play retail PS5 games on a PC through a working PS5 emulator. RPCS5 lists Windows, macOS, and Linux builds, but those operating-system claims do not demonstrate that commercial games run on them. No independently tested performance results were found.

This answer is specifically about playing PS5 games through emulation. The sources reviewed here do not establish other ways to play particular titles on a PC, so they cannot support a broader claim about every game or PC option.
What files does a PS5 emulator need?
According to its Getting Started page, RPCS5 accepts a folder of game files or an original PS5 disc and asks users to install firmware from a PS5UPDATE.PUP file. The page also says firmware should be legitimate and not redistributed. These are unverified instructions from the site, not a confirmed workflow for a working emulator.

Because the emulator and its setup have not been verified, these claims should not be read as a reliable list of required files or as confirmation that a disc can be read, copied, or used successfully. In particular, a site’s file instructions do not settle whether making or using a copy is lawful.

Which PS5 games are compatible?
No trustworthy game-by-game compatibility database or independent game tests were located. There is therefore no substantiated list of compatible commercial PS5 games, compatibility percentage, or verified count to rely on. A claim that a specific title boots or plays should be treated as unconfirmed unless it is backed by credible, independently reproducible testing.

Is PS5 emulation legal?
There is no single answer here that applies worldwide. The relevant questions can include what software or content is copied, whether security or authentication protections are bypassed, and which country’s laws and contractual terms apply. The available sources do not determine whether a particular emulator infringes rights or whether a particular personal copy is permitted.
For the United States, Sony’s Product Software License Agreement, version 2.0, grants a limited, non-commercial, revocable right to use covered software on the product. Its terms restrict copying and reverse engineering, and use of tools to bypass, disable, or circumvent encryption, security, or authentication mechanisms. The agreement also refers to applicable intellectual-property law and recognizes that some local statutory consumer rights may take precedence over contractual terms. These are Sony’s contractual terms; they are not, by themselves, a court ruling on every emulator or user.

Sony’s US Terms of Service also restrict reproduction or transfer of PSN content, creation of derivative works, reverse engineering, and bypassing encryption, security, DRM, or authentication. These terms and the software agreement do not resolve every legal exception or how rules differ outside the United States. Check the laws and terms that apply to you, and consult a qualified local adviser if the consequences matter.

Owning a disc does not by itself establish that copying it, extracting files from it, or circumventing protection is lawful. Sony’s US agreements treat game software and PSN content as licensed material and contain restrictions described above; applicable law and contractual terms may vary by location.
RPCS5’s site says users can insert an original disc, but that is an unverified technical claim, not proof that the disc workflow works or that using it is authorized. Buying or owning a physical game should not be treated as Sony’s endorsement of emulation or as permission to bypass protections.
