These features reflect Sony’s US information; naming, offers, and availability can differ by region. Catalog membership provides access while eligible—not permanent ownership of every game. Check the current games catalog for a specific title. Sony says that from January 2026, PS4 games will be added only intermittently.

Sony’s US plan page displayed the following prices when checked on October 4, 2026. These are displayed US prices, not a global price list; confirm the price shown for your account before purchase. Sony says the subscription continues until canceled.

For an annual subscription, Extra is $55 more than Essential at those displayed prices, and Premium is $25 more than Extra. That makes the practical test simple: will you use enough of the added catalog or Premium features to justify the difference?
Which tier should you choose?
Choose Essential for multiplayer and the shared benefits
Essential is the lowest-cost tier in Sony’s displayed US annual pricing. It fits if your priority is online play in games that require PS Plus, along with monthly games and the other core membership benefits, and you do not expect to use the subscription catalog.

Choose Extra if you plan to play from the Game Catalog
Extra is the step up for players who expect to play multiple games in the current Game Catalog and value that access enough to pay more than Essential. Sony describes the catalog as containing hundreds of games, with new titles added regularly. Since availability changes, check that the games you want are currently included rather than assuming a particular title will remain.
Choose Premium for its specific added features
Premium is worth considering if you will use the Classics Catalog, game trials, eligible cloud streaming, or the Sony Pictures Catalog listed on the US plan page. If streaming is your reason to upgrade, check that it is available in your region and on your device, and that the games you want can be streamed.

Streaming availability and connection requirements
Sony’s plan information says cloud streaming requires at least 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p. Not every game may be available to stream, and content availability varies. Sony’s US plan page describes PS5 cloud streaming; its games page also refers to PS4, PS5, and PC availability subject to conditions. Check current regional eligibility, supported devices, and game availability before choosing Premium for streaming. Catalog games are subscription access, not permanent purchases
Extra’s Game Catalog and Premium’s Game and Classics catalogs are tied to membership and availability. A game’s presence today does not guarantee it will remain in the catalog; verify the live listing if a specific game matters to your decision. Sony also notes that from January 2026 PS4 games will be added only intermittently.
