To use a Spectrum remote with a Samsung Smart TV, first identify the remote model, then follow Spectrum’s programming instructions for that exact model. There is no single code or button sequence that applies to every Spectrum remote. If you want the Samsung remote to control your Spectrum cable box instead, use the TV’s separate Universal Remote setup.
How do I find the model number on my Spectrum remote?
Open the battery cover and look for the model number inside the compartment. Spectrum has instructions for several remote families, and the programming method depends on which one you have. Its remote-programming support page lists models including Spectrum Guide, Universal CLIKR-5 UR5U-8780L/8790L, 1060BC2/1060BC3, Philips RC122, UR3-SR3M/UR3-SR3S, URC 2060, Atlas OCAP 5/M1056, AllTouch AT8560-Rev-A, UR3-SR/SR2, and CLIKR-5 UR5U-8820L.

How do I program my Spectrum remote to my Samsung TV?
- Identify the model. Read the model number inside the battery cover.
- Choose that model’s instructions. Open Spectrum’s program-your-remote page and select the matching remote. Spectrum’s models use different methods: some support direct code entry or a code search, while the CLIKR-5 UR5U-8780L/8790L has quick setup and manual methods.
- Follow the listed steps and test the TV. Confirm the functions you wanted—typically power and volume—work as intended.
Do not try a code or button sequence meant for a different Spectrum remote. The exact Samsung code and steps cannot be established without matching your remote model to Spectrum’s current instructions. Samsung likewise advises that third-party remote setup should follow the remote manufacturer’s instructions; see Samsung’s guidance on third-party remotes.

There is no one code to give for all Spectrum remotes. Spectrum’s instructions vary by model, and some models use a code search or another setup method rather than the same direct code-entry process. Check the number inside your remote’s battery cover and use the corresponding Spectrum instructions; don’t assume a code found for another model will work.

Can I use my Samsung remote to control my Spectrum cable box?
Yes, on supported Samsung TVs you can set up the Samsung remote to control a cable or satellite box. This is a different task from programming a Spectrum remote to control the TV.
- On the Samsung TV, go to Home → Source → Universal Remote → New Device → Cable/Satellite Box.
- Choose TV directly if the box is connected to the TV, enter your ZIP code, and select Spectrum as the provider.
- Select the HDMI port used by the cable box, then follow the on-screen tests for channel control and finish setup.
The available menus and setup can vary by TV model and software, cable-box type, and connection. If the box runs through a home theater system rather than connecting directly to the TV, follow the setup options shown for that configuration. Samsung’s cable-box universal-remote instructions provide the steps for its U.S. support flow.

Why don’t the instructions or controls work?
- The buttons or steps do not match your remote: Check the model inside the battery cover and reopen the instructions for that exact model.
- You want to change channels on the Spectrum box: Set up the Samsung remote for the cable box instead of programming the Spectrum remote to operate the TV.
- The Samsung setup menus differ: Menu names and feature availability vary across TV models. Check Samsung’s instructions for your set and connection type.
- The Samsung remote is not paired to the TV: Pairing the Samsung Smart Remote to the Samsung TV is separate from programming a Spectrum remote. For third-party remotes, Samsung recommends following the remote maker’s instructions.
