Choose Private Internet Access (PIA) if unlimited simultaneous connections and a lower promotional price matter most; choose NordVPN if you value the broader feature set and the edge it receives in some comparison reviews for speed and network reach. Neither is the right pick for everyone. Compare the full amount due now, renewal cost, connection limit, and the streaming services you actually use before subscribing.

Which VPN is cheaper after renewal?
The October 2026 deal snapshot lists a lower monthly equivalent for PIA: $2.19 versus $3.49 for NordVPN. Those are promotional figures, not evidence of what either plan costs month to month or after its first term. The deal guide does not establish the total billed upfront or the renewal amount for either service.

How many devices can you use at once?
Security.org and Gizmodo describe PIA as allowing unlimited simultaneous connections. Security.org describes NordVPN as limited to 10 devices. These are the cited publishers’ descriptions, so check the current terms for the particular plan before subscribing, especially if you expect to connect a large household or several devices per person.
A device limit counts concurrent connections, not necessarily the number of devices on which an app can be installed. A router VPN can cover devices on the home network, but it is a separate setup with hardware and firmware requirements rather than a reason to assume the service’s account limit has changed.

Which is faster, and which has more servers?
Security.org’s 2026 comparison reports download-speed reductions of 4.84% for PIA and 5.78% for NordVPN in its test context, while also characterizing NordVPN as faster overall and reporting a larger server network. The percentages measure that review’s results; they are not speed guarantees. A smaller percentage reduction in one reported metric does not, by itself, establish which service will deliver the higher download speed for you.

VPN performance varies with your location, distance to the selected server, protocol, device, baseline connection and test method. Gizmodo also awards NordVPN the overall win across its category scoring, but that result reflects Gizmodo’s criteria and setup—not a universal verdict (Gizmodo’s head-to-head comparison).

Which is better for streaming?
The cited comparisons do not establish a like-for-like result for particular streaming platforms, regions and test dates. They therefore do not support a reliable claim that either service will unblock every service or provide better streaming for every viewer.
If streaming is your main reason for subscribing, check whether the provider supports the device you use and whether your required platform works from your location. Look for recent tests that name the platform, region and test date, and check the service’s current terms. A VPN app may be available on a streaming device even when the app is not available for your router; those are different ways to connect.

What do the privacy and security claims establish?
TechRadar’s PIA review refers to independent verification, and Security.org discusses independent audits for NordVPN. The cited summaries do not provide enough detail to compare the auditors, dates, scope or product components covered. An audit is evidence about what was examined within its stated scope; it does not prove that a service can never log data or guarantee anonymity.

Which extras could change your choice?
Port forwarding
Tom’s Guide says NordVPN does not support port forwarding, a feature that may matter for specific networking or peer-to-peer setups. If your setup depends on it, confirm the current documentation and compare the requirements with PIA’s current feature details before choosing; the cited sources do not establish PIA’s current port-forwarding terms (Tom’s Guide’s NordVPN review).
Router and streaming-device support
PIA’s support documentation describes manual OpenVPN configuration on routers running DD-WRT, OpenWRT, AsusWRT, pfSense or FreshTomato. It also describes installing PIA’s app on Amazon Fire Stick, Android TV Box and Apple TV. Check the exact router model and firmware against PIA’s compatibility guidance: support for a firmware family does not mean every device using it is compatible (PIA’s router and streaming-device instructions).
PIA’s router guidance says AES hardware acceleration can handle encryption more efficiently. It also says mesh systems and modem-router combinations are generally unsupported and that router VPN speeds may be lower than speeds on phones or computers. A router is therefore an optional route to network-wide coverage—not a required purchase—and its suitability depends on the hardware and firmware (PIA’s router compatibility guidance).

PIA may suit you if
- You want to connect many devices at the same time and its current terms still offer the connection policy described by the comparison sources.
- The lower promotional price is attractive after you verify the full upfront and renewal costs.
- You want to investigate manual router configuration for network-wide coverage and your exact hardware is supported.
NordVPN may suit you if
- You prioritize the larger network and overall speed advantage reported by Security.org, while recognizing that your own results may differ.
- You prefer the broader feature and category advantage described by Gizmodo.
- You do not require port forwarding, which Tom’s Guide says NordVPN does not support.
For either service, make your final choice against the current plan terms and the specific devices and services you use. The cited comparisons do not establish a universal winner for every location, streaming platform or privacy requirement.
