PRISM Live Studio is a Windows streaming app with production features, but the documentation reviewed does not establish that it can automate an unattended, endlessly repeating playlist in the same way. If you do not want a computer running at home, a cloud service is a third option.
How to choose between PRISM Live Studio and FFmpeg
| Decision point | FFmpeg | PRISM Live Studio |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist looping | Documented input option -stream_loop -1 loops an input indefinitely. Concatenating multiple files uses separate workflows and compatibility requirements. |
YouTube lists PRISM as a Windows streaming app, but the reviewed listing does not establish an unattended playlist mode or infinite looping. |
| How you operate it | Command-line configuration; useful for repeatable, scripted media pipelines. | Graphical application with production features including effects, drawing, virtual background, virtual camera, and mobile-app integration. |
| Local dependencies | Runs on the computer where you start the encoder; its processing, power, and internet connection must remain available. | Also a local streaming application, so plan for the machine and network to remain available during the stream. |
| Evidence about reliability | Looping and concatenation are documented capabilities, not an uptime guarantee. | The reviewed documentation does not specify playlist crash recovery or comparative uptime. |
There is no sourced head-to-head reliability test establishing that either tool stays up longer. Choose based on the playlist behavior you can confirm, your comfort with command-line controls versus a GUI, production needs, and whether you can keep a local encoder running.

What FFmpeg can do with a playlist
Looping one file
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as the input option for infinite looping; loop 0 means no loop. This is a documented media-input capability, not a complete YouTube streaming recipe or a guarantee that the encoder will recover after a failure.
Advancing through multiple files
For a set of videos, FFmpeg documents concatenation workflows. The concat demuxer works only when the inputs have compatible streams; files that differ in important stream properties may need to be normalized or handled with the concat filter, which uses a re-encoding workflow. Do not assume that any arbitrary collection of videos will join seamlessly.
#1 Best Overall
- 【1080P HD High Quality】Capture resolution up to 1080p for video source and it is ideal for all HDMI devices such as PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, DVDs, DSLR, Camera, Security Camera and set top box. Note: Video input supports 4K30/60Hz and 1080p120/144Hz. Does not support 4K120Hz/144Hz. Output supports up to 2K30Hz.
- 【Plug and Play】No driver or external power supply required, true PnP. Once plugged in, the device is identified automatically as a webcam. Detect input and adjust output automatically. Won't occupy CPU, optional audio capture. No freeze with correct setting.
- 【Compatible with Multiple Systems】suitable for Windows and Mac OS. High speed USB 3.0 technology and superior low latency technology makes it easier for you to transmit live streaming to Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, OBS, Potplayer and VLC.
- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
- Check that all playlist files play correctly and that their audio and video formats are suitable for the chosen workflow.
- Test file transitions, audio continuity, and the end-to-start transition before relying on the playlist unattended.
- Plan how you will detect a stopped process or unhealthy stream and restart it; the documented loop option does not itself provide service-level recovery.
The exact output command depends on the source files, codecs, bitrate, output protocol, and YouTube ingestion settings. Use the official FFmpeg documentation for the relevant option and concat workflow rather than treating an unverified one-line command as universally safe.
What PRISM Live Studio does—and what to verify
YouTube’s encoder directory lists PRISM Live Studio for Windows and describes production features such as effects, drawing, virtual background, virtual camera, and mobile-app integration. The listing says those listed features are provided at no charge. It does not establish that PRISM supports an endlessly repeating prerecorded playlist, unattended file advancement, or automatic recovery after a crash.

- 4K60 Capture: Record in cinematic quality with crisp detail and vivid colors
- HFR Support: Play and capture in 1440p120 or 1080p240
- HDR10 Support: Capture brilliant HDR content with tone mapping on Windows
- Cross-Platform Compatible: Works with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and more
- Analog Audio In: Capture in-game chat or commentary with 3.5mm input
Before choosing PRISM for continuous playout, check the current version for the exact playlist controls you need: adding multiple files, advancing automatically, repeating the list, preserving audio at transitions, and resuming after interruption. Run the intended playlist for an extended test rather than inferring 24/7 behavior from its general streaming features.

- Enable live streaming. Verify the YouTube channel and activate live streaming. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its stream URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Match the encoder settings to YouTube’s ingestion mode. YouTube’s applicable encoder guidance lists CBR and H.264, HEVC, and AV1 in its settings context. It recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Use settings supported by both the selected ingestion mode and your encoder.
- Prefer encrypted delivery where supported. YouTube recommends RTMPS. HLS is a separate ingestion option with its own requirements; its rolling ingestion playlist must have no more than 5 outstanding segments, among other requirements. That is not the same thing as your playlist of prerecorded program videos.
- Test before going live. Preview the stream, check picture and sound, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages. Leave upload capacity beyond the stream bitrate rather than using all available bandwidth.
- Plan for the archive limit. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Do not rely on a single YouTube archive to preserve an uninterrupted 24-hour stream as one complete video; arrange separate recording or capture if you need a full-length copy.
When a cloud service makes more sense
If keeping a local computer and home connection available around the clock is the main obstacle, consider a cloud-based option. YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos without a dedicated PC. Its current pricing, service limits, and recovery behavior are not established here, so verify those details before choosing it.

Troubleshooting a 24/7 playlist stream
- The stream does not start: Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, that the correct stream URL and key are configured, and that the selected ingestion settings match the encoder. Re-copy the key if needed and keep it private.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: Check encoder output settings and the local upload connection. Reduce the stream bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, and leave bandwidth headroom. Preview and monitor YouTube’s health messages.
- The playlist fails at a file boundary: Check stream compatibility between files if using the concat demuxer. Normalize incompatible media or use an appropriate concat filter workflow, then test the transition and audio continuity again.
- PRISM stops or does not advance the playlist: Confirm the current app actually supports the required playlist automation and repeat behavior. The reviewed documentation does not establish those controls or automatic recovery; do not rely on an untested configuration for unattended streaming.
- The local stream ends after a computer or network interruption: A local encoder depends on local power, processing, and connectivity. Check those dependencies and define a way to monitor and restart the encoder, or use a cloud option if the computer cannot remain available.
- The archive is incomplete: YouTube’s automatic archive rule covers streams under 12 hours. Use a separate recording or capture plan when the entire continuous event must be preserved.
