PowerWash Simulator resetting players progress, fix in the works

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reports of PowerWash Simulator resetting progress usually fall into one of two buckets: the game is losing (or overwriting) your save data locally, or the platform’s cloud sync is restoring an older version. Either way, the outcome looks the same—your career/session progress appears to roll back or vanish.

If you’re seeing resets, don’t immediately reinstall. Your best chance to recover work you earned is to back up the current save files, then fix sync/path issues in a controlled order. Below is a step-by-step reference for PC (Steam/Windows), PlayStation, and Xbox, plus what to do while a fix is in the works.

What it means when PowerWash Simulator resets your progress

Depending on what you mean by “progress,” the reset may show up as a rollback of career milestones, tool unlocks, money totals, or save slots. Some players also report a mismatch where one category resets while others remain.

That distinction matters because different causes affect different parts of the save (cloud sync conflict vs local save corruption vs account mismatch).

First: confirm what actually reset

Before troubleshooting, write down what changed so you can tell whether the rollback is partial or total.

  • Money/credits reset: often a save state rollback or overwrite.
  • Tool unlocks reset: can be a different section of the save file, or a mismatch between profiles.
  • Progress returns to an earlier job/level: commonly cloud conflict.
  • Save slot changed: can happen when you’re on a different user/account or installed a different edition.

If possible, take a screenshot of the in-game progress screen and note the date/time of the last correct session.

Common causes (and why this happens)

Even when the game’s code is correct, save systems can fail in ways that look like “the game decided to reset me.” The most common culprits:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Steam Cloud conflict: Steam may download an older save if it decides your local version is “out of date,” or if the game crashed before it could upload.
  • Account/profile mismatch: signing into a different PlayStation Network or Microsoft account can make it look like your progress vanished.
  • Save folder overwritten after update: some updates can change how saves are structured; if sync happens at the wrong time, the older format can overwrite the newer one (or vice versa).
  • Local save corruption: power loss, crashes, or storage issues can corrupt save files, and the game may create a “fresh” save on next launch.
  • Reserved space / storage synchronization delay (console): cloud sync can lag; launching too early after an install/update can show a temporary rollback.

Recovery prerequisites before you change anything

Do these first to protect yourself from making the situation worse.

  1. Stop launching the game repeatedly after you notice the reset. Every launch can rewrite local saves.
  2. Back up your save folder (PC) before touching cloud settings or reinstalling.
  3. Note your platform + account: Steam account, PlayStation user, or Microsoft account identity.
  4. Check for recent update activity: if a reset appeared right after an update, your fix path is more likely tied to sync/order rather than corruption.

Fixes you can try now on PC (Steam and Windows)

On PC, the highest success path is: confirm Steam Cloud configuration, back up local saves, then resolve conflicts without reinstalling first.

Verify Steam Cloud is enabled

Steam Cloud must be on for reliable cross-session saves, but it can also introduce rollbacks when local and cloud versions disagree.

  1. Open Steam.
  2. Go to Library > right-click PowerWash Simulator > Properties.
  3. Open the General tab.
  4. Click Enable Steam Cloud synchronization if it’s available and currently off.
  5. Launch the game once and wait for cloud sync to complete if Steam indicates it’s syncing.

Manually back up your save folder

Backups let you restore your last good state even if cloud sync goes sideways.

On Windows, PowerWash Simulator saves are commonly stored under a LocalLow folder. Use this path as a starting point:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\FuturLab\PowerWashSimulator

  1. Close PowerWash Simulator.
  2. Press Win + R, paste the path above, and press Enter.
  3. Copy the entire PowerWashSimulator folder to a safe location (example: D:\SavesBackup\PowerWashSimulator\YYYY-MM-DD).

If you don’t see the folder, search for it in File Explorer using the game name and check the most recent modified files.

Check the game’s save path and restore from backup

If you confirmed a reset and still have a previous backup, restore it instead of waiting for cloud behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Keep your “reset” saves intact by making a second backup copy of the current folder.
  2. Delete or move the current save folder out of the game’s save path (don’t overwrite your only copy).
  3. Copy your last known good backup folder back into:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\FuturLab\PowerWashSimulator

  1. Launch the game and check whether progress returns.

If it works, you may still need to fix the cloud conflict so it doesn’t immediately overwrite your restored save.

Clear cloud/download conflicts safely

Steam sometimes resolves conflicts in a way that favors older data. Avoid “blind” toggling until you’ve backed up local saves.

  1. Back up again (you should have at least two copies: “before changes” and “restored candidate”).
  2. Return to PowerWash Simulator > Properties.
  3. Toggle Steam Cloud synchronization (if the UI allows you to change it) and restart Steam after the change.
  4. Launch the game and observe whether Steam reports syncing and whether the save reverts.

If you see the save revert immediately, your cloud copy likely contains the older/empty state. In that scenario, local restore succeeded but cloud needs to stop overwriting until the conflict is resolved (or until a server-side fix lands).

Reinstall only after backup

Reinstalling can be necessary if files are damaged, but it can also wipe or reset local state if you didn’t back up.

  1. Back up the save folder one more time.
  2. Uninstall PowerWash Simulator via Steam.
  3. Reinstall from Steam.
  4. Restore your backed up save into the LocalLow path.
  5. Launch the game and confirm progress.

Fixes you can try on PlayStation (PS4/PS5)

On PlayStation, progress resets commonly trace back to cloud save sync not completing, or the wrong user profile being loaded. Don’t skip the account checks.

Confirm upload/download of saved data

If you use PlayStation Plus cloud saves, sync timing matters.

  1. On PS5/PS4, open Settings.
  2. Go to Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
  3. Select Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4).
  4. Choose Cloud Storage.
  5. Check for PowerWash Simulator save data and confirm it’s up to date.

Check if you’re using the correct user profile

PowerWash Simulator saves are tied to your signed-in profile.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. From the PS home screen, confirm the active user.
  2. Launch the game with that same user.
  3. If you have multiple PSN profiles on the console, test by switching users and comparing progress.

Restart the console and let sync complete

After an update, cloud sync can lag. A full reboot and a short wait can help the console load the correct save.

  1. Fully restart the console.
  2. Wait a minute or two before launching the game.
  3. Launch and then check whether progress matches the last known state.

Fixes you can try on Xbox

On Xbox, cloud save sync and account identity are the usual culprits. If your progress disappeared right after an update, give the console a moment to finish syncing before assuming the save is lost.

Confirm you’re logged into the correct Microsoft account

  1. Open Settings > Accounts.
  2. Confirm the signed-in profile is the one used when you earned your progress.
  3. Launch PowerWash Simulator again and check progress.

Manage reserved space and restart sync

If you suspect inconsistent saves after an update or install, a restart can trigger proper synchronization.

  1. Go to My games & apps.
  2. Highlight PowerWash Simulator.
  3. Open the menu and choose Manage game & add-ons.
  4. Check update status and then restart the console.
  5. Launch the game and verify whether progress is corrected.

Fixes you can try on other editions / platforms

Steam vs console version differences

Cloud saves do not always cross between Steam and consoles. Make sure you’re troubleshooting the correct platform’s save behavior and not expecting cross-platform transfer that doesn’t exist.

Controller, performance, and crash-related resets

Crashes can prevent saves from uploading. If you notice resets after a crash or power interruption, treat it as a reliability problem too:

  • Update GPU drivers and verify game files (Steam) before assuming the cloud is wrong.
  • Avoid alt-tabbing or force-closing during saving screens.

When a reset is tied to an update (why a fix may already be in the works)

Game studios often ship server-side or compatibility fixes after identifying a regression in save handling. When the issue is update-related, your local save may be fine—but cloud reconciliation might still overwrite it with a stale copy.

That’s why the best short-term mitigation is to back up local saves and reduce the chance that the next launch overwrites your restored data.

What to do if your progress is already gone

If the reset already happened and you didn’t back up beforehand, recovery becomes a matter of “best available copy” and evidence gathering.

Recover via local save backups

Even if you think everything is gone, some backups or older files can still exist (especially after reinstalls).

  1. Check your save folder for multiple modified timestamps.
  2. Look for any files created shortly before the reset (use Windows “Date modified”).
  3. If you see multiple save versions, try restoring the newest pre-reset set and launch.

Collect evidence for support

Support tickets move faster when you provide timestamps and proof of the reset.

  • Screenshots of the in-game progress screen before/after.
  • The platform (Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox).
  • Rough time and date when the reset occurred.
  • Any steps you tried (like verifying Steam Cloud).

If you have local save backups, include the filenames and exact folder path so support can compare what changed.

Common mistakes that make resets worse

  • Reinstalling without backing up your save folder first.
  • Launching repeatedly after the reset, which can overwrite older local files.
  • Ignoring account/profile mismatch on consoles.
  • Turning off cloud without backup, then discovering you created a new local “empty” save that later syncs.

Troubleshooting checklist (fast)

  1. Back up saves (PC: copy LocalLow save folder immediately).
  2. Confirm correct account/user (Steam profile / PSN user / Microsoft account).
  3. Check cloud sync status (Steam Cloud enabled; console cloud storage up to date).
  4. Restore from the most recent pre-reset backup and launch once.
  5. If cloud overwrites restored data, stop the overwrite loop (don’t keep testing repeatedly) and wait for a server-side fix or support guidance.

FAQ

Will Steam Cloud always fix PowerWash Simulator resets?

No. Steam Cloud helps when uploads and downloads agree, but conflicts can still roll you back to an older save. That’s why backing up local files first is crucial.

Where are PowerWash Simulator saves on Windows?

A common location is %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\FuturLab\PowerWashSimulator. If that folder isn’t present, search for “PowerWashSimulator” in your AppData folders and check the most recently modified files.

Why did my progress reset right after an update?

Update-time save structure or compatibility changes can trigger cloud reconciliation issues, especially if sync happens during crashes or abrupt exits. The safest mitigation is to back up and restore rather than repeatedly launching.

Can I transfer progress between Steam and consoles?

Usually, no. Most players should assume saves stay within their platform ecosystem unless the publisher explicitly supports cross-progression.

What should I send to support if my progress reset?

Include screenshots, your platform, the approximate reset timestamp, and your local save backup details (paths and filenames). That helps them correlate the incident with known build/update behavior.

Bottom Line

If PowerWash Simulator is resetting your progress, treat it like a save sync problem first, not a total loss. Back up your local saves, verify you’re on the right account, and restore a pre-reset copy before you reinstall.

While a fix is in the works, avoid creating new “empty” saves that can overwrite older data. With a careful restore and the right sync settings, you’ll give yourself the best odds of getting your progress back.
