Power Fx formulas can look different in French-style comma-decimal authoring even when they express the same logic. The key is to distinguish argument separators from action chaining: in that locale, a single semicolon separates function arguments, while a double semicolon chains actions. A dot in a property reference such as Slider1.Value remains a dot.
Why the same Power Fx formula can use different punctuation
Power Fx follows the author’s locale for decimal and list separators. Microsoft says the underlying formula does not change across author locales; the separators are displayed and edited according to each author’s language settings. Its overview puts the French case plainly: “To be as approachable as possible for makers at all levels, it’s important that 3,14 is a decimal number for a person in France who has used that syntax all their lives.” Microsoft’s Power Fx overview explains the broader principle.

The mapping applies beyond function arguments: separators also distinguish record fields and records in tables. Microsoft’s global support documentation describes the locale-dependent syntax.

Do not change the property-access dot
The dot in Slider1.Value means “the Value property of Slider1.” It is not a decimal marker or list separator, so it stays a dot in both authoring conventions. Microsoft’s operator reference documents property access separately from separators.

Single semicolon versus double semicolon
In comma-decimal authoring, a single semicolon separates arguments in a function such as If, and can also separate record fields or table records. A double semicolon, ;;, chains actions. In dot-decimal authoring, commas separate function arguments and a single semicolon chains actions. Mixing these roles is a common reason a formula that looks familiar will not parse.
Choose a result and give feedback with If and Notify
If selects a result based on a condition; an action formula can use Notify to show feedback. For example, this pattern notifies the user and navigates only when a save condition succeeds. The punctuation shown here is for comma-decimal authoring:

Format numbers and dates for the person using the app
Use Text when a value needs a particular display format or language, rather than assuming the maker’s locale is the right one for every user. Microsoft documents custom number and date formats and an optional language tag. For French formatting, it shows the [$-fr-FR] language tag; in comma-decimal authoring, function arguments are separated by semicolons.
Text( 1234,56; "[$-fr-FR]#,##0.00 €" )This illustrates the French language tag and a number format with grouping, two decimal places, and a euro symbol. Formatting controls how a value is displayed; it does not change the authoring rules for separators. An explicit language tag can also determine the language used for date names. Parse imported numeric text using its source convention
Value and Decimal convert text to numeric values, and locale information can affect how they interpret decimal and grouping marks. A string that represents a number under one country’s conventions may not mean the same thing under another’s. At an import boundary, specify the source language where needed instead of assuming the text follows the maker’s locale.
For instance, when imported text uses French number conventions, a comma-decimal formula can pass an explicit language tag:

Value( ImportedAmount; "fr-FR" )Confirm the expected input format against the data source’s contract, including its decimal and grouping marks; a language tag is not a substitute for validating what the external system actually sends. Microsoft also cautions that locale formats matter when exchanging data with external systems. See the Value and Decimal function reference.
Localize the app at display and input boundaries
Internationalization is not just about changing labels. Microsoft’s global guidance identifies Language, Text, Value, and DateValue as relevant when adapting what users see and how values are interpreted across languages. Use display formatting for output and locale-aware parsing for incoming text; keep the data contract explicit where the app exchanges values with another system. The authoring punctuation still follows the maker’s locale, independently of the language tag used to format or parse a value.
