Why PortfolioDeck was built
Egbonyi says the frustrating part of maintaining a developer portfolio was not creating the site, but keeping its content current: “Not building the portfolio itself. Updating it.” Content such as project details, descriptions, work history and case studies could be spread across multiple files. Updating a few pieces meant “jumping between multiple files in VSCode,” followed by committing and pushing the changes.

That maintenance burden prompted the builder’s question: “There has to be an easier way to manage this.” PortfolioDeck is the answer Egbonyi describes: a content-management interface for portfolio information that would otherwise be edited directly in a codebase.

What PortfolioDeck is described as doing
Egbonyi calls PortfolioDeck “a free portfolio content management tool for developers.” The listed content types are projects, work experience and case studies. Rather than replace the portfolio repository, the service is described as a layer for editing its content and sending changes back to GitHub.

Direct commit or pull request?
The two release paths serve different preferences. A direct commit is the shorter route when the user is comfortable sending portfolio edits straight to the main branch. A pull request inserts a review point, so the proposed changes can be inspected before they are merged.

The account does not quantify how much time either route saves or measure the relative risk. The practical distinction is review control: a pull request provides an explicit checkpoint, while a direct commit does not.

The article is a first-person build account and describes PortfolioDeck as a work in progress. It gives the author’s rationale, intended workflow and technology choices, but it is not an independent product test or comparison. No adoption totals, measured time savings or performance results are reported.

Egbonyi lists React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Express, Prisma, PostgreSQL and GitHub App integration as technologies used to build the project. That stack is the builder’s account, rather than a separate inspection of the implementation. The article also invites feedback from developers who maintain portfolios, consistent with a project still being developed.
