To get a blocked form, statement, or login window working, allow pop-ups for that site rather than disabling the blocker everywhere when possible. The steps depend on your browser and device: Chrome, Firefox, and Edge use browser settings on computers; Safari uses Safari settings on Mac and the iPhone or iPad Settings app on mobile.
Choose site-specific access or turn blocking off
A site exception lets the needed website open pop-ups while leaving the browser’s default protection in place. Turning the blocker off more broadly affects other sites too. Prefer an exception when your browser offers one; pop-ups can support legitimate site features, but they can also be deceptive.

Turn off or allow pop-ups in Chrome on a computer
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu) > Settings.
- Select Privacy and security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
- Change the default if you want to allow or block pop-ups more broadly. To make an exception, open the site and, when Chrome blocks a pop-up, select the blocked-pop-up icon in the address bar and choose to always allow pop-ups for that site. You can also add it to the allowed list on the Pop-ups and redirects page.
Google notes that some legitimate websites use pop-up windows for web content. If Chrome is managed by your workplace or school, an administrator may control the setting. Google Chrome Help: Block or allow pop-ups in Chrome.

Change the pop-up blocker in Firefox
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security and scroll to Permissions.
- To disable blocking broadly, clear Block pop-ups and third-party redirects. To keep blocking on, select Exceptions and add the website that needs access.
Some sites, including banks, use pop-ups for important features. Firefox also notes that some ads only resemble pop-up windows, and its pop-up blocker does not catch every method of displaying them. Mozilla Support: Pop-up blocker settings, exceptions and troubleshooting.

Allow pop-ups in Microsoft Edge
- Open Settings and more > Settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Pop-ups and redirects.
- For a site-specific exception, add the URL to Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects. To change blocking more broadly, change the Blocked (recommended) toggle.
Edge may open a pop-up after you select a page button or link; Microsoft says that behavior is not prevented by its pop-up blocker and does not necessarily mean the setting failed. Microsoft Support: Block pop-ups in Microsoft Edge.
Allow pop-up windows in Safari on a Mac
- In Safari, choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences in some versions) > Websites.
- Select Pop-up Windows in the left column. Scroll down if you do not see it.
- Set the menu beside the website to Allow. To allow pop-ups on other websites by default, choose Allow next to When visiting other websites. You can instead choose Block and Notify to receive a prompt when a site requests a pop-up.
Apple notes that blocking pop-ups can prevent wanted site content from appearing. Apple Support: Allow or block pop-ups in Safari on Mac.

Turn off pop-up blocking in Safari on iPhone or iPad
- Open the device’s Settings app.
- Tap Apps > Safari.
- Turn Block Pop-ups off.

If pop-ups or alerts still appear
- Check whether the alert is a website notification. Notifications are separate from pop-up windows. If alerts continue after changing the pop-up setting, review the site’s notification permission in the browser. Firefox also has separate controls for notifications and redirects.
- Consider what action triggered the window. In Edge, a window opened after you click a button or link may be expected behavior rather than a blocker failure.
- Treat unexpected messages as suspicious. Apple warns that deceptive pop-ups can impersonate trusted organizations, request personal or financial information, or prompt you to install unwanted software. Do not click suspicious messages or fake close buttons; close the tab or window if you are unsure.
- If Safari pop-ups persist despite the setting, Apple advises checking for unwanted software.
- If a setting is unavailable, browser versions may differ, and a workplace or school administrator may manage the browser’s settings.
