If a notification is still in Notification Center, you can scroll to it and open it. If you cleared it, Apple’s published instructions do not provide a way to restore that alert to Notification Center. Check the app that sent it for the message, email, call, appointment, or other information it pointed to.
First, check whether the notification is still in Notification Center
An alert that has disappeared from the Lock Screen may still be available in Notification Center. Apple describes Notification Center as a place to review notifications and scroll back through what you missed.

What if you already cleared the alert?
Apple documents how to clear an individual notification or the notification history, but its published guidance does not describe a restore option for a cleared alert. Look in the app that generated it for the underlying information instead. For example, check Messages for a text, Mail for an email, Phone for call history, or Calendar for an appointment. For a delivery update or account notice, check the relevant service’s app.

This may recover the information the alert referred to, not the original banner or Notification Center entry. Whether an app retains that information, and where it keeps it, depends on the app and the event.
Can you recover a deleted text message?
A deleted message is different from a cleared notification. On iOS 16 or later, Apple says eligible deleted messages and conversations can be recovered from Messages > Filters (or Edit in iOS 18) > Recently Deleted. Apple gives a general recovery window of 30–40 days for eligible content. This restores message content; it does not put a cleared notification back in Notification Center. Why an alert may seem to be missing
- It is in a group: tap an app’s notification stack to reveal its individual alerts.
- It is no longer in Notification Center: check the source app for the information rather than expecting the alert itself to return.
- Its presentation was affected by settings: notification display, per-app alerts, grouping, scheduled summaries, Focus, and Lock Screen access can change when or how alerts appear. The available controls vary by iOS version, device, app, language, and region.
Apple’s notification guidance also describes features such as StandBy notifications on iOS 17 and later, and version- and device-specific notification summaries. These affect how notifications are presented; they are not recovery tools for alerts already cleared.

How to reduce the chance of missing future notifications
Review the notification settings for the app you care about, including its alert presentation and whether its notifications are grouped or included in a scheduled summary. Check Focus settings if alerts are being silenced, and decide whether notifications should appear on the Lock Screen. Exact labels and options can differ across iOS releases and apps; Apple’s notifications guide covers the available controls.
