A Polymarket trade marked “matched” has not necessarily finished on-chain. In the platform’s documented lifecycle, MATCHED means the trade was matched and sent for on-chain submission; CONFIRMED is the successful final state. A label such as “filled” alone does not establish that final state.
What does “matched” mean on Polymarket?
Matching and settlement are separate events. A matched trade has been paired through the exchange’s order book and sent to an executor for on-chain submission. That is progress, not proof of successful completion. Polymarket’s trade lifecycle documentation distinguishes the match from the later transaction states.

So, does matched mean your trade settled? No—not by itself. Check the trade’s lifecycle state rather than relying only on an order acknowledgment or a generic “filled” label. The precise interface display and account-specific reconciliation steps are not established by the published status definitions.
How to read each trade lifecycle status
| Status | What it establishes | Does it indicate final success? |
|---|---|---|
MATCHED |
The trade was matched and sent to the executor for on-chain submission. | No. It is not a terminal-success state. |
MINED |
The transaction was observed in a block. | No. The documentation says a finality threshold has not yet been established for this state. |
CONFIRMED |
The trade achieved successful finality. | Yes. This is the documented successful final state. |
RETRYING |
A failed or reverted transaction is being retried or resubmitted. | No. It is not yet a confirmed success. |
FAILED |
The trade failed permanently and will not be retried. | No. It is the final failed state. |
These meanings follow Polymarket’s official lifecycle status definitions. A mined transaction is evidence of on-chain progress, but the documentation does not equate MINED with final confirmation.

What does “confirmed” mean?
CONFIRMED means the trade reached the successful finality state described by Polymarket’s lifecycle documentation. It is the clearest status in that lifecycle for saying the trade completed successfully. By contrast, MATCHED records a venue-side match, while MINED records that a transaction appeared in a block.
For verification, distinguish the order’s match from the transaction’s final lifecycle state. If it remains RETRYING, another submission attempt is in progress; if it is FAILED, the documented outcome is permanent failure rather than successful settlement.

Trade settlement is not market resolution
Polymarket describes outcome shares as priced from 0.00 to 1.00 USDC. A YES and NO share pair is fully collateralized by 1.00 USDC, and shares for the correct final outcome pay 1.00 USDC each when the market resolves, according to its overview and FAQ.
