For most first-time buyers who want straightforward, full-size Polaroid prints, the Polaroid Now Generation 3 is the most natural starting point. Choose the Go Generation 3 for a smaller camera and smaller prints, the Now+ for app-based controls, the Mod for effects on a physical dial, the Flip for sonar autofocus and exposure alerts, or the I-2 for built-in manual control.
This is a feature-and-workflow comparison based on Polaroid’s published specifications and guidance—not a hands-on test or an independent image-quality ranking. Before choosing, check which film each camera uses: Go film is exclusive to Go cameras, while several other models use i-Type and 600 film.

Which Polaroid instant camera should I buy?
Start with the way you want to shoot, rather than assuming the more expensive camera will make better pictures. The key differences are film format, portability, and whether creative controls are on the camera or accessed through an app.

|---|---|---|---|
| Polaroid Now Generation 3 | First-time users who want simple, full-size analog shooting | Two-zone autofocus, self-timer, double exposure, and tripod mount | i-Type and 600 |
| Polaroid Now+ Generation 3 | Beginners who want optional creative controls | Bluetooth app access to aperture priority, remote controls, manual mode, and more | i-Type and 600 |
| Polaroid Go Generation 3 | Travel and people who prioritize a compact camera and smaller prints | Compact body, selfie mirror, self-timer, and double exposure | Go film only |
| Polaroid Mod | Creative shooters who want effects on the camera | Dedicated dial for Split Shot, Motion Freeze, Double Exposure, and Light Painting; Split Shot accessory included | i-Type and 600 |
| Polaroid Flip | Everyday shooting with focus assistance and exposure warnings | Sonar autofocus, four-lens system, over- and underexposure alerts, and app connectivity | i-Type and 600 |
| Polaroid I-2 | Experienced creators who want built-in manual exposure control | Built-in controls and multiple exposure modes; premium specialist tier | i-Type, 600, and SX-70 |
Compatibility and feature descriptions are from Polaroid’s camera guide and the linked official camera comparison, along with the models’ product pages: Now Generation 3, Now+ Generation 3, and Go Generation 3.

How to choose between the six models
Polaroid Now Generation 3: the straightforward default
Choose the Now Generation 3 if you want a conventional, full-size Polaroid experience without making an app part of your workflow. Its two-zone autofocus supports point-and-shoot use, while the self-timer, double exposure, and tripod mount offer a few ways to vary a shot. It accepts both i-Type and 600 film, so you are not limited to one of those formats.
Polaroid Go Generation 3: portability and smaller prints
The Go is the portability choice, but its size advantage comes with a format trade-off: it uses Go film only, rather than i-Type or 600. Polaroid lists the Go Generation 3 at 251.9 g without film and 106.5 × 83.8 × 64.6 mm. It also has a selfie mirror, self-timer, and double exposure. If you prefer the standard full-size Polaroid format, choose another model.
Rank #2
- Wearable and take anywhere-able: As the Polaroid’s smallest instant camera, the Polaroid Go fits in almost every bag, tote, pocket and pack. So you can capture real life wherever, whenever.
- Takes clearer, brighter, even nicer pictures: Thanks to the large aperture range, precise light sensor and on-point-exposure settings, the Polaroid Go Generation 2 image quality is better than ever.
- Built-in selfie mirror: Say cheese to yourself in the Polaroid Go’s reflective viewfinder – aka ‘selfie mirror’.
- Double-exposure and self-timer modes: Take photos so nice you shot them twice with double-exposure mode. Or set up the perfect self-portrait with the touch of the self timer button.
- Shoots pocketable Polaroid Go film and shoots 15 film packs with a single charge.
Polaroid Now+ Generation 3: creative controls through an app
Choose the Now+ if you want to keep a point-and-shoot option but also try more deliberate settings. The camera connects to the Polaroid app over Bluetooth; listed controls include aperture priority, remote controls, and manual mode. Its film compatibility is the same as the Now Generation 3: i-Type and 600.

The Mod suits photographers who would rather select creative effects directly on the camera than rely chiefly on app controls. Its dedicated mode dial includes Split Shot, Motion Freeze, Double Exposure, and Light Painting, and the Split Shot accessory is included. It accepts i-Type and 600 film. Polaroid describes the Mod as intended for people exploring analog creativity without requiring professional photography experience; that is the manufacturer’s audience guidance, not an independent performance assessment.
Rank #3

Polaroid Flip: sonar autofocus and exposure alerts
Consider the Flip if focus assistance and warnings about over- or underexposure are more important to you than a purely basic point-and-shoot experience. Polaroid lists sonar autofocus, a four-lens system, app connectivity, and compatibility with i-Type and 600 film. The published feature list does not establish that it produces better pictures than the other models.
Polaroid I-2: built-in manual control
The I-2 is the specialist option for photographers who want extensive control on the camera itself. Polaroid’s support guide calls it the company’s first analog instant camera with built-in manual controls and identifies professional and creator photographers as its intended users. It accepts i-Type, 600, and SX-70 film. Its broader control set makes most sense if you expect to use those options; otherwise, a simpler model may better fit your needs.
Rank #4

Film format and ongoing cost matter
Film compatibility is a practical buying constraint: a camera’s initial price is only part of the decision if its film format does not suit the prints or ongoing supplies you want. The Go Generation 3 uses Go film exclusively. The Now, Now+, Mod, and Flip use i-Type and 600; the I-2 also supports SX-70, according to Polaroid’s guide.

- Want standard full-size prints? Start with the Now or Now+ if simple compatibility with i-Type and 600 matters.
- Want the smallest camera and print format? The Go is the compact option, but plan around Go film rather than assuming other Polaroid film will fit.
- Already have film? Confirm its exact type against the camera’s product information before buying; these formats are not interchangeable across every model.

What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
Polaroid’s current comparison lists six models: I-2, Flip, Go Generation 3, Now Generation 3, Now+ Generation 3, and Mod. Its audience descriptions and product specifications help match features to a shooting style, but they are not independent performance tests. The available specifications do not support declaring one model the sharpest or best in image quality.
