The 7-star Mewtwo Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet ended on September 17, 2023, so it is no longer scheduled content. For that historical fight, a recommended counter was Bug-Tera Mew with an Adamant nature, using Struggle Bug and Light Screen to support the team before boosting with Swords Dance and attacking with Leech Life. The event boss itself was a Modest Mewtwo with Psychic Tera Type; its reported moves were Psystrike, Aura Sphere, Ice Beam, and Calm Mind.
When the Mewtwo raid ran—and what that means now
The special 7-star raid ran from September 1, 2023 at 00:00 UTC through September 17, 2023 at 23:59 UTC, according to The Pokémon Company’s event announcement. It has ended; buying or owning either game does not restore access to this event.

Mewtwo normally cannot be encountered in Paldea. During the event it appeared as a Psychic Tera Type raid boss. The official announcement explains that Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type moves dealt super-effective damage to it. Players needed current Poké Portal News to access the event themselves; they could also join a 7-star raid hosted by someone who had unlocked the postgame event. The Mewtwo obtainable in the raid was reported as Modest, with Psystrike, Aura Sphere, Ice Beam, and Calm Mind. These are details for the 2023 raid-caught Mewtwo, not a universal recommendation for every Mewtwo or competitive format. The event catch was limited to once per save data, although players could continue raiding after catching it to earn rewards. The catch limit is stated in the official event announcement; the nature and moves are listed by Serebii’s event data.

A recommended Mew counter build
GameWith’s raid guide recommends a Bug-Tera Mew with an Adamant nature, Synchronize, and these moves:

How to use the build during the fight
- Start with Struggle Bug. Lowering Mewtwo’s Special Attack helps reduce the pressure from its special attacks. Keep applying it as needed rather than treating one use as permanent protection.
- Set or refresh Light Screen. Use it to help protect the team, particularly while allies are taking damage.
- Build Attack with Swords Dance. Raise Mew’s Attack before committing to offense, while watching Mew’s health and the raid’s shield state.
- Attack with Leech Life. It exploits the boss’s Psychic Tera weakness to Bug moves and restores some of Mew’s HP. Adjust the balance of support and attacks to the team’s condition; this sequence is not a guaranteed win.
GameWith reports that the event Mew received a battle boost and the Mightiest Mark when used in this raid. Its guide also cautions that defeating Mewtwo solo was very difficult and recommends playing with a team. It describes Mewtwo using Rest when its HP was low, with a Chesto Berry interaction after the shield was broken; that is strategy-guide reporting, rather than a detail in the official event announcement.
Choosing between Bug, Ghost, and Dark attacks
All three types—Bug, Ghost, and Dark—hit the Psychic Tera boss super effectively, but type effectiveness alone does not determine a useful raid role. The event Mew build above is designed to combine Bug damage with team support and Special Attack reduction. When considering another counter, compare its ability to survive Psystrike, Aura Sphere, and Ice Beam, whether it can lower Mewtwo’s Special Attack or protect allies, and whether it will support the group or deal damage. Do not assume that a type advantage by itself makes a Pokémon safe against the boss’s other moves.

Raid advice is not a general competitive Mewtwo set
The Modest nature and four listed moves describe the event Mewtwo; the Adamant nature and four-move build describe a recommended Mew counter. Neither establishes a best general competitive Mewtwo set. Competitive recommendations depend on the format and rules, which are not specified here, so a single current all-purpose moveset would be misleading.
