How do Pokémon Mystery Gifts work?
Mystery Gift is a way to receive distributed items or Pokémon. Depending on the game or service, you may claim a gift over the internet, enter a code or password, or use a local-event option. Pokémon HOME has its own gift routes, including code entry and checking for a local event. The destination and requirements vary: a gift may go straight into a game or first appear in HOME’s Gift Box.

How to redeem a Mystery Gift code or internet gift
In Pokémon HOME
Pokémon Support’s HOME instructions, updated January 30, 2026, describe three ways to receive gifts: check for a local event, enter a code, or scan a code pattern. To enter a code:

Who knows what kind of story awaits you? For the first time in the series, one of two different professors will appear in your game depending on the version you choose to play.
- Open the menu in Pokémon HOME and select Mystery Gift.
- Select Code and enter the code.
- Retrieve the gift from the Gift Box.
HOME’s code-entry instructions say codes do not include the letters O, I or Z. Apply that character rule only to HOME codes; check the instructions for other games or services separately.
A gift in the Gift Box is not necessarily the final step. Depending on the gift, you can claim it into your Pokémon HOME Boxes or use a displayed code to receive it through Mystery Gift in a compatible game. Pokémon Support says each gift can be received only once per save file, and a code that has already been used cannot be used again.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet
The following path is specific to the Scarlet/Violet promotion instructions. Launch the game, open the X menu, and select Poké Portal. Choose Mystery Gift, then Get with Code/Password. Connect to the internet when prompted, enter the password and confirm the gift arrives in your party or Pokémon Boxes; then save. The Revavroom promotion page provides this route as an example, but its code expired on October 31, 2024. It is not a currently redeemable code. Other games use different menus
For Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Pokémon Support’s promotion instructions say to open Mystery Gift, choose Get a Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, enter the code and save. Its legacy Nintendo 3DS examples also include local wireless, internet, infrared and code/password options; some direct players to a delivery person in a Pokémon Center. These are examples, not one universal menu path. Follow the instructions for the specific title and promotion.

- Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
When do Pokémon Mystery Gift codes and gifts expire?
Expiry is set by the individual offer or service, not by a standard Mystery Gift timer. A promotion may specify when distribution ends, a separate deadline to redeem a code, or no code expiration date while still subject to other restrictions. Check the official offer page for both the distribution window and any redemption deadline, and do not treat an old code list as proof that a code still works.

The Legends: Z-A bundle announcement also says the Mystery Gift feature becomes available after approximately one hour of play. That is a game- and offer-specific instruction, not a general requirement for all Mystery Gifts.

What to check before claiming
- Which game or service? Confirm the offer works with your title and follow its menu path.
- What are the dates? Separate the dates an offer is distributed or available from the deadline to redeem its code, if both are given.
- Are there claim limits? Check whether the gift is limited per save file or account, and whether a code can be reused. HOME’s stated rules are one gift per save file and no reuse of a used code; do not assume other offers use identical terms.
- Does it require internet, local presence or game progress? The route may require an internet connection, a local event check, or progress to unlock Mystery Gift.
- Where does the gift go? If it lands in Pokémon HOME’s Gift Box, complete the next claim or transfer step rather than leaving it there.
