How to encounter Astronaut Pikachu
Astronaut Pikachu is a new costumed Pokémon debuting for the event. The announcement lists two ways to encounter it:
- One-star raids: Look for Astronaut Pikachu in the event’s one-star raids.
- Timed Research: The free event research offers an Astronaut Pikachu encounter, along with additional rewards.
The announcement says a Shiny Astronaut Pikachu may be available if you are lucky. It does not provide encounter probabilities, so neither route can be described as more likely to produce one.

Timed Research: deadline and what is known
Timed Research is available during the event, but its deadline comes after the event ends. Complete the tasks and claim every reward by Monday, October 12, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. local time. Leave time to claim rewards before the cutoff; the announcement says the research expires at that point.
The official notice confirms an Astronaut Pikachu encounter and “more,” but does not publish individual tasks or a complete reward list. It also does not specify event bonuses or wild encounters. Those details should not be assumed from other World Space Week activities; check the in-game event information or a later official update for any additions.

Raids or Timed Research: which route should you pursue?
| Route | What is confirmed | Time consideration |
|---|---|---|
| One-star raids | Astronaut Pikachu is listed as a raid encounter. | Requires participating in a raid; the announcement gives no encounter odds. |
| Timed Research | The free research offers an Astronaut Pikachu encounter and additional rewards. | Complete tasks and claim rewards by October 12, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. local time. Individual tasks are not listed in the announcement. |
There are no alternative event tracks or ticket options in the official announcement. Since it gives no odds for either route, choose based on whether raid participation or completing research tasks fits your play better—not on an assumed higher chance of an encounter.

The in-game event is one part of a broader World Space Week 2026 collaboration between the European Space Agency (ESA) and The Pokémon Company International. Their September 19, 2026 release describes an exhibition focused on space and Pokémon at ESA sites and major museums across Europe, exclusive merchandise, and a special Pokémon GO event. It does not establish that every exhibition or merchandise item is available at every location. Read ESA’s collaboration announcement.

ESA also reports that a Pikachu plush traveled aboard the International Space Station during ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot’s mission. According to ESA, it was in orbit from April 11 to June 17, 2026, completing 67 days in orbit and approximately 1,040 orbits. This is background to the collaboration, not evidence that the flight plush is for sale or that a particular Astronaut Pikachu product is available.
