What you need depends on which release you’re playing. On the original Game Boy Advance, the games shipped with a Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter for wireless communication between FireRed and LeafGreen. On Nintendo Switch, the documented route to the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket is automatic: defeat the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame. You do not need to track down a historical event distribution for those Switch encounters.

| Release | What the official information establishes | What to do |

| Original Game Boy Advance | The Pokémon Company says the GBA releases shipped with a Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter. The instruction manual says wireless communication is only possible between FireRed and LeafGreen. Official game page; GBA instruction manual | For the original wireless features, use the GBA Wireless Adapter and another compatible FireRed or LeafGreen game. |
| Nintendo Switch | The Pokémon Company says Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket are automatically added to the Key Items pocket after the Elite Four and Hall of Fame. Ticket announcement | Complete the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame; the announced ticket route does not require a legacy adapter or event distribution. |
How to get the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket on Switch
- Progress through the game until you can challenge the Elite Four.
- Defeat the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame.
- Check the Key Items pocket for the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket. The Pokémon Company’s August 13, 2026 announcement describes them as automatically added after these postgame milestones.
The tickets provide the documented route to the Lugia and Ho-Oh encounters (Mystic Ticket) and the Deoxys encounter (Aurora Ticket). This Switch method replaces the need to seek out a past event distribution for those encounters.

What the original GBA Wireless Adapter does—and does not establish
The GBA manual limits wireless communication to FireRed and LeafGreen. The adapter is therefore relevant to original GBA play; the official Switch information does not say it is compatible with, or required by, the Switch versions. If you are playing Switch and only want the two postgame ticket encounters, the automatic ticket route is the pertinent instruction.
Does the Switch release have the original Mystery Gift menu?
The Pokémon Company’s Switch release and ticket announcements document the automatic post-Hall-of-Fame ticket items, but do not say whether the Switch versions retain the original Mystery Gift menu or wireless event-receiving behavior. That specific feature is not established by those official announcements, so it should not be treated as confirmed or assumed from descriptions of unofficial setups.

- Discover a new species of Pokémon with the Pokémon Lets Go series
- Catch Pokémon in the wild using a gentle throwing motion with either a Joy-Con controller or a Poké Ball Plus accessory, which will light up, vibrate, and make sounds to bring your adventure to life
- See the world in style by customizing Pikachu and your Trainer with a selection of outfits
- Connect to Pokémon GO* to transfer caught Kanto-region Pokémon, including Alolan and Shiny forms, as well as the newly discovered Pokémon, Meltan, from that game to this one
PK Camp describes a custom project for sending events to unmodified Switch games using its own equipment and setup. That is an unofficial project, not a Nintendo service or a standard requirement for obtaining the two tickets: PK Camp.

The Pokémon Company announced the Switch release for February 27, 2026, saying the games return as they were on GBA except for Pokémon HOME transfer support. Its August 13, 2026 announcement said HOME connection would begin in October 2026; it gave a month, not a specific day. Ticket access is described separately as automatic after defeating the Elite Four and entering the Hall of Fame. Release announcement; HOME and ticket announcement.
