Blissey has the highest base EXP yield in Generation IX, at 635 according to Bulbapedia’s Experience reference. That does not mean every battle against Blissey awards the same number of points: the final amount depends on the game’s battle and sharing rules. If you are farming in Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, Chansey and Blissey are practical targets; the best answer changes with the game you are playing.
Which Pokémon has the highest base EXP yield?
For Generation IX, Bulbapedia lists Blissey at a base EXP yield of 635, the highest species value in that generation in the cited reference. Before Generation V, the historical top value was 255, shared by Arceus, Happiny, Chansey, and Blissey. Those figures compare species’ base yields; they are not the EXP awards a player necessarily sees after a particular battle.

The distinction matters because a high-yield species is only one part of the calculation. The defeated Pokémon’s level and the game’s EXP-sharing rules also affect how much each member of your team receives. Bulbapedia’s figures are community-maintained reference data, not an official Pokémon Company quotation.
Base yield versus EXP awarded
Base EXP yield
Base EXP yield is the species’ underlying value used in comparisons. It helps answer which Pokémon is intrinsically associated with a larger EXP amount in a given game or generation.

EXP awarded after a battle
EXP awarded is the amount the game calculates for a specific battle and recipient. Level, participation, party distribution, and other game rules can change the amount. For that reason, a single cross-generation ranking cannot tell you exactly how many points a Pokémon on your team will receive.
How EXP sharing can change your results
Rules differ by game. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, The Pokémon Company’s Raising and Evolving guide says that non-fainted party members earn EXP when an opposing Pokémon is defeated. Pokémon that participated receive a larger share, and level differences affect each share. The guide also says traded Pokémon gain boosted EXP compared with Pokémon native to the player’s copy.

These details apply to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl; do not assume the same distribution or traded-Pokémon boost in another title without checking that game’s rules. The species’ yield and the amount received by an individual party member are separate parts of the calculation.

What to farm in Scarlet and Violet
For Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Nintendo Life’s EXP farming guide recommends targeting Chansey and Blissey. It also describes using a Lucky Egg and food effects as part of a farming setup. These are game-specific tips, not universal methods for every Pokémon game.
Rank #3
- Chansey and Blissey: the guide identifies them as useful EXP targets in Scarlet and Violet.
- Lucky Egg: an in-game held item discussed as part of that title’s farming approach.
- Food effects: the guide covers food-based EXP or encounter strategies that can support the setup.
- Let’s Go auto-battles: the guide notes that these award reduced EXP, so they are not equivalent to regular battles for this purpose.
The cited guide does not establish one best route for every player or a universal best grinding location across the series. Use its methods as Scarlet and Violet examples, and check the game you actually play before applying them elsewhere.

- Check the game first. A top species or mechanic in one generation may not hold the same position in another.
- Separate yield from practicality. The highest base-yield species is not automatically the easiest or most repeatable target to encounter.
- Account for the recipient. The defeated Pokémon’s level and your game’s sharing rules affect each team member’s award.
- Keep bonuses in scope. Items, food effects, trading status, and battle type should be treated as game-specific factors, not assumed series-wide rules.
For a Scarlet and Violet player choosing a practical target, Chansey and Blissey are the supported examples in the cited farming guide. For a pure species-value comparison in Generation IX, Bulbapedia lists Blissey first.
