The POCO M6 Pro 5G, as reviewed in India in August 2023, is a capable budget 5G phone for everyday use. Its strengths are battery life, a smooth 90Hz screen and good daylight photos. Its weaknesses are slow 18W charging, bloatware and notifications, and average portrait and selfie cameras. It is also very close to the Redmi 12 5G, so the better deal is usually whichever one costs less. The assessments below come from published 2023 reviews, not from our own testing.
Which POCO M6 Pro this is
This article covers the India-focused POCO M6 Pro 5G. A separate global POCO M6 Pro 4G exists, with an AMOLED display and a Helio G99-Ultra chipset. Its specifications are different, so don’t mix them up. That matters for spec sheets and also for cases or screen protectors, which should be matched to the 5G model.

Pros
- Battery life. The 5,000mAh cell was one of the reviewer’s highlights.
- Everyday performance. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 was described as comfortable for browsing, social media, streaming and messaging.
- Smooth large display. The 6.79-inch FHD+ panel with 90Hz refresh suits scrolling and video.
- Daylight photos. Camera output in good light was praised.
- Design. The reviewer liked the look of the phone.
- Expandable storage. A microSD slot helps on the 64GB version.
Cons
- 18W charging. The review called it slow for a 5,000mAh battery.
- Bloatware and push notifications. Pre-installed third-party apps and promotional notifications were the main software complaint. Digit’s review headline similarly flagged “tons of bloatware”.
- Portrait mode. Edge detection was a problem.
- Selfies. The 8MP front camera was rated average.
- Limited heavy-gaming headroom. Casual games were playable, but demanding workloads can expose the chip’s limits.
- Little differentiation. Both 91mobiles and Smartprix noted heavy overlap with the Redmi 12 5G.
Performance, camera and battery in practice
Performance
Expect smooth basic use. The 4GB RAM version is the one to be careful with if you keep many apps open. The 6GB+128GB version is the more comfortable choice for longer-term use.

Camera
The 50MP main sensor does the real work, and the 2MP secondary is a minor addition. The reviewer’s positives were limited to daylight, and its portrait and selfie shortcomings are typical of this price tier.
Battery and charging
Endurance is the draw. The trade-off is a long top-up time at 18W, so it suits people who charge overnight more than people who need quick top-ups.

POCO M6 Pro 5G vs Redmi 12 5G
The two phones were judged near-twins in specs and experience, with 91mobiles titling its review “same wine, different bottle”. Because of that, don’t pay a premium for either. Compare:

Software support: what’s known
At launch the phone ran Android 13-based MIUI 14. The reviewer noted that POCO had not officially announced future updates. That is a 2023 statement and doesn’t tell you the phone’s current Android version or when support ends. Check the manufacturer’s official support information before buying, especially a used or old-stock unit.

Verdict
For buyers who want long battery life, a smooth screen and reliable daily performance on a tight 5G budget, the POCO M6 Pro 5G was a sensible pick in 2023. Look elsewhere if you want fast charging, cleaner software, better portrait and selfie cameras, or serious gaming. The review is three years old, so I wouldn’t call it a current best buy without checking today’s price, stock, update status and newer rivals. Gadgets 360 keeps a listing with specs and prices, but treat any figure there as a snapshot, not a live offer.
