The POCO F9 Ultra pairs premium-category hardware with a price that undercut selected mainstream flagships in one independent review. That makes it a potentially cheaper alternative—not a guaranteed equivalent: camera results, software support, ergonomics, warranty and local pricing still need checking. Xiaomi announced sales in Japan on September 1, 2026, but availability and prices vary by market.
What the POCO F9 Ultra offers
Xiaomi’s UK product and specification pages describe a hardware-forward Android phone built around the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Its headline features include a large high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, a high-capacity battery, fast wired and wireless charging, and three rear cameras, including a periscope telephoto lens. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent test results.

Display and sound
Xiaomi UK lists a 6.9-inch-class AMOLED display with a maximum refresh rate of 185Hz. The panel measures about 6.85 inches diagonally when measured as a full rectangle, and its refresh rate can vary by application and game. Xiaomi Japan describes the panel as 1.5K HyperRGB and claims up to 4,500 nits multi-scenario peak brightness; that brightness figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result. Xiaomi also lists Bose-tuned stereo audio with a subwoofer, while its Japan release describes a 2.1-channel sound system with a rear subwoofer. Battery and charging
Xiaomi lists an 8,050mAh typical-capacity battery, 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Capacity and charging ratings do not establish real-world battery endurance or charging time. Xiaomi Japan also claims the battery will retain at least 80% of its maximum capacity after 1,600 charge cycles; this is a manufacturer durability claim, not an independently observed result. The UK specification page says a power adapter is not included and recommends a Xiaomi adapter rated at 100W or above, or a 100W PD charger. Package contents can differ by market, so check the local listing before buying a separate charger.

Rear cameras and video
The UK specifications list a 200MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and a 120mm-equivalent focal length, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. Xiaomi also lists rear video recording up to 8K at 30 frames per second and 4K at 60 frames per second. Resolution and recording modes do not guarantee image quality; compare actual camera results across the lenses and in the situations that matter to you. Is it a cheaper alternative to a Samsung or Google flagship?
In its review context, TechRadar described the F9 Ultra as hundreds of pounds cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and Google Pixel 11 Pro XL. Treat that as a qualitative comparison, not a dependable price quote: the review’s summary gives a starting price of £899 / $799 / €1,099.99, while its body says the UK starting price is £749 and identifies $799 as Poco’s US price, with US sellers varying. The figures conflict, and prices vary by market, date and seller, so verify current local prices before deciding. TechRadar’s review contains the comparison and both price statements.

A high specification sheet can make the F9 Ultra a serious option in the premium Android category, but it does not establish that the phone matches those rivals in every area. Compare the camera output, display experience, sustained gaming performance, battery endurance, weight and software policy—not just the processor, charging ratings or megapixel counts.
Another model to compare
TechRadar also identifies the Xiaomi 17T Pro as an alternative with similar specifications and a lower listed price in that review context. It notes that the 17T Pro does not use the Snapdragon chip, while describing its cameras as better tuned and its software support as longer. Those assessments and prices are review-specific; check current local prices and each maker’s regional update policy before treating them as a purchasing advantage. What to check before you buy
- Total local cost: Compare the price for the exact RAM and storage configuration, including tax, delivery and any discounts that are active now.
- Camera performance: Look for results from the main, ultra-wide and telephoto cameras, rather than assuming listed resolutions or focal length ensure the images you want.
- Weight and comfort: TechRadar’s reviewed specification table lists a weight of 235g. Consider whether that size and weight suit your daily use.
- Software support: TechRadar’s table lists four Android-version updates and six years of security patches through 2032. Confirm Xiaomi’s current commitment for the exact regional model before relying on that policy.
- Network and service: Confirm compatibility with your carrier’s bands, the warranty that applies where you live, and the availability of local repair support.
- Charger and package: Check the regional box contents and the charger requirements; the UK specification page says the power adapter is not included.
Xiaomi Japan also publicizes an AnTuTu score above 4 million points. That is a manufacturer-published benchmark claim, not an independent test result, and does not by itself show sustained gaming performance or everyday speed. Poco Global’s Kang Lou has said, “From our end, we believe performance is not always about chasing the latest chipset.” That explains the company’s stated approach to chipset strategy; it is not independent evidence about performance. Xiaomi Japan’s release gives the benchmark claim, and the interview with Kang Lou is the source for his comment.
