On macOS, capture a full-page image in Playwright with await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true }). The fullPage option captures the page’s full scrollable area, not just the visible viewport. Use page.pdf() separately for PDF output; it uses print CSS by default.
Capture a full-page image in Playwright on Mac
There is no special macOS-only screenshot procedure in the Playwright documentation. Use the same Page API call on a Mac as on other supported systems:

await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true });Here is a complete runnable example using Playwright’s Node.js library. Install Playwright in your project with npm install playwright, then save this as screenshot.js and run it with node screenshot.js:

const { chromium } = require('playwright');
(async () => {
const browser = await chromium.launch();
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'load' });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png', fullPage: true });
await browser.close();
})();Replace the example URL with the page you want to capture. The example waits for the page’s load event; sites that continue rendering or loading content afterward may need an additional wait suited to that page.

Choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP
Playwright supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP image screenshots. PNG is the default. If you provide a file path with a recognized extension, Playwright can infer the image type from it; you can also set the type explicitly.
| Output | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true }); |
Default screenshot format. |
| JPEG | await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.jpeg', fullPage: true, type: 'jpeg' }); |
Set type: 'jpeg' explicitly or use a matching path extension. |
| WebP | await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.webp', fullPage: true, type: 'webp' }); |
Set type: 'webp' explicitly or use a matching path extension. |
For JPEG, Playwright also documents a quality option; it applies to JPEG output, not PNG. See the Playwright screenshot guide and Page screenshot API for the current options.

await page.emulateMedia({ media: 'screen' });
await page.pdf({ path: 'page.pdf' });The PDF API accepts page sizing options, including named formats such as Letter and A4, as well as dimensions and margins. Consult the Playwright PDF API for exact option names and behavior. Do not use fullPage: true to request a PDF; that option belongs to image screenshots.
Keep Mac screenshot comparisons consistent
A screenshot can look different across environments even when the test code is unchanged. Playwright notes that rendering can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. For visual regression comparisons, create and compare baselines in the same environment wherever possible; a baseline captured on one setup may not match one created on another.

Common problems and fixes
- The image contains only the visible area. Confirm that you passed
fullPage: truetopage.screenshot(). - The file format is not what you expected. Use a matching extension such as
.png,.jpeg, or.webp, or specify the correspondingtypeexplicitly. Remember that PNG is the default. - The PDF looks different from the browser page. PDF generation uses print CSS by default. Call
page.emulateMedia({ media: 'screen' })beforepage.pdf()if screen media is what you want. - Visual output differs between runs or machines. Check the host OS, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode; keep them consistent for baseline comparisons.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot through an API instead of running Playwright locally, ScreenshotNeo returns an image or PDF from one GET request. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot:
