Which Nintendo Switch game do you think deserves a place among the greats—and why? Tell us the title, what makes it worth playing, and who you think would enjoy it. A favorite can be an open-world adventure, a quick multiplayer round, a demanding action game, or something quieter and more creative; there is no single kind of player or universal definition of “top.”
What makes a Switch game one you recommend?
A useful recommendation goes beyond a title. Tell us what stood out to you and what kind of player it suits: someone who wants a story and room to explore, a challenge built around repeated attempts, short sessions, friendly competition, family play, or a creative or simulation-focused experience. If a game is best enjoyed solo, with people in the same room, or online, say so.

Nintendo frames its own starter suggestions as “a variety of different experiences” and “just a smattering of games,” rather than a complete verdict on what everyone should play. Its examples are a helpful reminder that recommendations can span very different tastes. Nintendo’s Switch game recommendations include large-scale exploration in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, racing and battle modes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and story progression between escape attempts in Hades.
What kinds of games should readers mention?
Any genre is welcome. These examples are conversation starters, not a ranking or a checklist:
#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Exploration and adventure: Does a game reward wandering, experimentation, or choosing your own route? Nintendo describes The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as an expansive adventure shaped by player-directed paths.
- Racing and party play: Is it more fun competing, cooperating, or switching between both? Nintendo highlights racing and battle modes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe; Mario Party Superstars is another party-game example in Play Nintendo’s poll.
- Action and challenge: Does the game make failure satisfying because each attempt teaches you something? Nintendo points to Hades and its repeated escape attempts and story progression.
- Strategy and creature collecting: Does planning, training, or directing a team make the game memorable? Nintendo’s recommendations include strategy and exploration in Pikmin 4 and open-world collecting, training, and battles in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
- Multiplayer and online squads: Describe how people play together and what the experience feels like. Nintendo describes Fortnite as a free-to-play battle royale with online squads, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe supports local and online play.
- Dance, simulation, and creative play: Tell us whether the appeal is moving to music, tending a world, or making something of your own. Nintendo’s examples include Just Dance 2025 Edition; Play Nintendo’s poll also features Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Game Builder Garage.
- Platform games and other surprises: If a game defies an easy category, explain what makes it click. Play Nintendo’s poll includes Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain.
Which edition or platform do you mean?
Please identify the version you played, especially when a title has separate editions for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s current must-play games collection includes both platforms, as well as future release listings. Check the platform and edition label—and whether a listed game has actually released—before recommending it as currently playable.
Also mention the edition if it matters to your recommendation. A reader should be able to tell whether you mean the original Nintendo Switch release or a Nintendo Switch 2 edition, rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
Rank #2
- New stages and fighters are joined by the combined rosters of every past Super Smash Bros. Game
- Challenge others anytime, anywhere, whether you're on the couch or on the go

- Fight faster and smarter with new and returning techniques, like the perfect shield and directional air dodge
- Face off in 2-4 player battles, or play against the computer
What should you include in your recommendation?
Use these prompts to give other readers enough context to decide whether a game fits them:
Recommended Free Tools
- Title and edition: What is the game called, and are you recommending the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 version?
- Your reason: What makes it memorable—its story, mechanics, atmosphere, challenge, replay value, or something else?
- Player fit: Who would enjoy it most: a solo explorer, competitive player, family, or someone looking for shorter sessions?
- How it plays with others: Is multiplayer local, online, or both? Does it require extra games, systems, controllers, or an online subscription?
- Age rating: If you mention one, make sure it matches the specific game and edition. Ratings can differ across titles.
- Why it belongs in the conversation: Is it a lesser-known favorite, or one you would recommend over a famous first-party game?
Play Nintendo’s poll lists ESRB ratings for the specific games shown and cautions that multiplayer may require additional games, systems, or accessories. Those practical details can help readers, but they should be checked for the particular title and edition you have in mind. See Play Nintendo’s Switch game poll.

- Ride on rails, jump off walls, skim across water, and more as you race for the finish line

- Explore courses at your own pace and wander the world to discover fun surprises in Free Roam
How do rankings fit in?
Rankings can introduce games worth discussing, but they answer different questions and use different methods. Nintendo Life’s 2026 Switch games guide places The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild first, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 third, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fifth, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sixth. Those are that publication’s editorial placements, not a universal consensus.
Other lists have narrower scopes. Metacritic’s best-reviewed Switch games of 2025 covers games released on either Switch 2 or the original Switch during 2025 and requires at least seven scored professional reviews. A year-specific critic-score list is not the same thing as an all-time editorial ranking—or a reader’s personal recommendation. TechRadar’s 2026 Switch games guide is another editorial selection with its own approach.
Rank #4
- Journey through space in two Super Mario adventures, now improved for the Nintendo Switch system!

- Get additional Health and fall recovery in Assist Mode
