To play a Spotify playlist on Alexa, link Spotify in the Alexa app under More > Settings > Music & Podcasts, then ask Alexa to play the playlist by name. Set Spotify as your default music service if you want to omit the service name from ordinary music requests.
Link Spotify in the Alexa app
- Open the Alexa app and tap More > Settings.
- Under Alexa Preferences, open Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Link New Service, choose Spotify, and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your account. Spotify says linked providers appear under Manage Services. Spotify Support labels these instructions “For: Premium.”
Make Spotify the default music service
This step is optional. In the Alexa app’s Music & Podcasts settings, open Your Default Services, select Spotify, then tap DONE. With Spotify set as the default, you can make ordinary music requests without naming the provider.

Ask Alexa to play a playlist
Say: “Alexa, play Discover Weekly.” Spotify gives that as an example voice request. Replace “Discover Weekly” with the name of the playlist you want to hear. Menu labels may change as the Alexa app is updated.
Supported devices and account eligibility
Spotify’s US support page lists these compatible devices: Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Spot, Echo Show, Amazon Tap, Fire TV Cube, Facebook Portal/Portal+, and all Sonos players. This is the list on Spotify’s US page, not a guarantee that availability is identical in every country. The page labels its instructions “For: Premium”; it does not establish eligibility for every free account or region.

One exception for podcast requests
Even after setting Spotify as the default, Spotify says to add “on Spotify” to podcast commands. This wording applies to podcasts; it is not required for ordinary playlist playback.
If Spotify is missing from the service list
Spotify’s support instructions do not identify why the service might be absent from the Alexa app or provide troubleshooting for account-linking or voice-recognition problems. Avoid assuming a particular app version, country, or subscription change is the cause. Check Spotify’s current Alexa setup page for its latest instructions.
