Yes, but it depends on your device and what you mean by “split.” On a Mac, macOS has a built-in way to send the same audio to multiple outputs. On Windows and Android, available options depend on the computer or phone, its software, and the connected devices. A wired splitter can share one compatible analog source with multiple headphones.
First distinguish three goals: mirroring the same sound to headphones and speakers, switching one set of headphones between source devices, or routing different apps to different outputs. They require different solutions.

Choose the right kind of audio split
- Mirror one source: Play the same sound through headphones and speakers at once. macOS offers a built-in Multi-Output Device workflow; other platforms may depend on device-specific support or accessories.
- Switch between sources: Connect headphones to two phones or computers and move playback from one to the other. Features such as Bluetooth Multipoint and Android Audio Switch address this use case; they do not necessarily mirror a phone’s audio to its own speaker and headphones.
- Route separate apps: Send one app to headphones and another to speakers. The platform guidance here does not establish a universal method for doing this across computers and phones.
Before choosing a method, check the connection types, whether outputs need separate volume controls, and whether synchronized playback matters. Mixed or independent wireless outputs may not stay in sync; no general latency figure applies to every setup.

Set up a Multi-Output Device
- Open Audio MIDI Setup.
- In the Audio Devices sidebar, click the Add button at the bottom and choose Create Multi-Output Device.
- Select the new device, then check Use beside each output you want included.
- Choose a Primary Device. Audio sent to that device is also sent to the other devices in the multi-output stack.
- Select the Multi-Output Device as the Mac’s sound output when you want to use the setup.
Apple documents this as a way to play audio through several devices at once: Play audio through multiple devices at once in Audio MIDI Setup on Mac. The available outputs depend on what is connected and recognized by the Mac.

Switch to one Mac output instead
To use a single output, open Apple menu > System Settings > Sound > Output and choose the device. Depending on the Mac and connected equipment, the list may include internal speakers, devices connected to the sound port, USB speakers, and AirPlay devices. See Apple’s sound output settings guide.
Do not confuse multi-output and aggregate devices
An Aggregate Device combines devices for audio applications and recording workflows; it is not the same setup as a Multi-Output Device. GarageBand has a narrower limitation: Apple says it can output audio to only one device. For sharing GarageBand audio with several wired headphones, Apple suggests a splitter or headphone amplifier. Apple’s Aggregate Device and GarageBand guidance describes that case.

What to expect on Windows
Windows output controls commonly let you select which device is the output. On Surface devices, Microsoft’s instructions say to select the speaker icon on the taskbar and expand the device list to switch between speakers and connected accessories. You can also choose a default output under Settings > System > Sound. These instructions explain output selection, not a universal way to mirror system audio to two independent outputs. See Microsoft’s Surface sound and audio accessories guidance.

What Android Multipoint and Audio Switch do
Multipoint switches between source devices
With supported headphones, Bluetooth Multipoint can connect the headphones to two audio source devices. To move media playback, stop it on the first source and start it on the other. This is switching between sources, not proof that an Android phone can play the same audio through its built-in speaker and Bluetooth headphones simultaneously. Google explains the feature in its Multipoint setup instructions.
Audio Switch also changes the connected source
Google’s Audio Switch feature can switch supported headphones among Android devices. Google lists Android 8 or later, Google Play Services, Fast Pair setup, and the same Google Account on each source device as requirements. It is a device-switching feature, not a general audio-mirroring control. See Google’s Audio Switch setup instructions.

Combined routing depends on Android version and device implementation
Android’s underlying combined-routing capabilities have changed over time, but they do not guarantee the same user-facing controls on every phone. The Android Open Source Project says Android 11 and earlier had limited support for combining devices of the same type. Android 12 removed some restrictions for cases such as audio broadcasting and multicasting to BLE headphones, with limits still applying. Android 14’s support for routing to multiple USB devices is limited to different audio device types and requires kernel and vendor support. See the Android Open Source Project’s combined audio device routing documentation.
When a wired splitter is the simplest option
If one analog source needs to feed two or more wired headphones, a compatible splitter can duplicate its output. For multiple headphones, a headphone amplifier may be a better fit when they need more drive or individual level controls. Apple names both options for sharing GarageBand audio with several headphones, which otherwise has a single-device output limit. Apple’s guidance describes this specific use case.

- 【Note】Bluetooth adapter is not for live music, musical instruments, karaoke, we don't suggest that you use it for electronic pianos or guitars which require 2.4G transmission for audio synchronization.
Before buying, check the source’s output jack, plug size, wiring compatibility, number of headphones, and whether you need individual volume controls. A basic analog splitter mirrors one output; it does not send different applications to separate devices, fix wireless latency, or synchronize Bluetooth headphones with speakers.
Pick a method by connection and control needs
| Approach | Best suited to | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Mac Multi-Output Device | Mirroring Mac audio to selected outputs | Requires configuring the outputs in Audio MIDI Setup; devices and available controls depend on the connected hardware. |
| Windows output selection | Choosing or switching the active output | Microsoft’s cited guidance does not establish a universal built-in method for mirroring system audio to two independent outputs. |
| Android Multipoint or Audio Switch | Switching supported headphones between source devices | Source switching is not the same as sending one phone’s audio to its speaker and headphones together. |
| Analog splitter or headphone amplifier | Sharing one compatible wired source with multiple headphones | Does not route different apps separately or synchronize independent wireless outputs. |
If the goal is separate apps on separate outputs, confirm that your specific operating system, device, and audio software expose that routing before changing equipment. The platform features above do not establish a universal cross-device procedure for app-by-app routing.
