Neither watch is a proven all-around winner: the better fit depends on your Android phone, preferred size, health features and battery expectations. Google’s Pixel Watch 5 offers 41 mm and 45 mm versions with Google-published battery and charging estimates; Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 comes in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes and emphasizes Samsung’s health features and One UI Watch experience. The available official specifications do not establish which watch is more accurate or lasts longer in everyday use.
Check your phone before comparing features
Google says Pixel Watch 5 works with most phones running Android 12.0 or later, and requires a Google Account and the Pixel Watch app. “Most” does not mean every Android phone or every feature is supported. Google’s published requirement does not establish Galaxy Watch8 compatibility parity, so check Samsung’s current requirements for your phone and country before buying, especially if you plan to use a particular health function.

Sizes, displays and fit
Pixel Watch 5 is available in 41 mm and 45 mm case sizes. Galaxy Watch8 comes in 40 mm and 44 mm versions, according to Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report. The size labels describe case size, not the diameter of the display, and they are not a direct measure of comfort; wrist shape and strap fit matter too.

| Pixel Watch 5 | 41 mm or 45 mm | Not stated in the cited Google specifications | Not stated in the cited Google specifications |
| Galaxy Watch8 | 40 mm or 44 mm | 34.0 mm (40 mm model); 37.3 mm (44 mm model) | 30 g (40 mm); 34 g (44 mm), per Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report |
Samsung’s India listing for the 44 mm Bluetooth model specifies a Super AMOLED display with 480 × 480 resolution. That is a regional, variant-specific listing; it should not be treated as a specification for every Galaxy Watch8 version or market.

Battery life and charging claims are not a head-to-head test
Google’s current Pixel Watch 5 specifications, checked October 7, 2026, give the following estimates. They are manufacturer claims, not independently measured everyday results.
| Watch and size | Battery capacity | Vendor battery estimate | Charging estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel Watch 5, 41 mm | 332 mAh | Up to 30 hours with always-on display; up to 48 hours in Battery Saver | About 15 minutes to 50%; about 45 minutes for a full charge |
| Pixel Watch 5, 45 mm | 465 mAh | Up to 40 hours with always-on display; up to 72 hours in Battery Saver | About 15 minutes to 50%; about 60 minutes for a full charge |
| Galaxy Watch8, 44 mm Bluetooth | 435 mAh | Up to 40 hours with always-on display off, according to Samsung India’s listing checked October 7, 2026 | Not stated in the cited Samsung source |
The conditions differ: Google’s figures for both Pixel sizes include always-on display, while Samsung’s cited 44 mm estimate is with that display off. The numbers therefore do not show that one watch will last longer under the same settings or pattern of use. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter report lists 325 mAh for the 40 mm Galaxy Watch8 and 435 mAh for the 44 mm model, but does not give a comparable battery-life estimate for the 40 mm size.

Google says the Pixel Watch 5 box includes the Quick Charge Dock, which works with either size. The dock requires a USB-C adapter of at least 7.5 W; Google says the adapter is not included. The dock is therefore not an extra purchase required to use the watch, though you may need a suitable adapter or want a spare dock.

Pixel Watch 5 runs Wear OS 7.0 and lists 64 GB of eMMC storage. Its listed sensors include ECG-compatible electrical sensors, skin conductance sensing and skin temperature sensing. Google’s August 12, 2026 launch announcement also claims improved GPS tracking and “2x greater accuracy compared to previous generations” in difficult environments. That is Google’s claim about its own previous generations, not independent evidence against Galaxy Watch8.

Samsung’s 44 mm product page describes Wear OS Powered by Samsung and lists 32 GB of storage, bioelectrical impedance analysis, an electrical heart sensor and an infrared temperature sensor. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter report identifies Exynos W1000 and Wear OS 6 for the Galaxy Watch8 lineup, alongside One UI 8 Watch and features such as bedtime guidance, vascular stress measurement during sleep, personalized running coaching, an antioxidant index and Gemini voice control. Those are Samsung-described capabilities, not independent assessments of accuracy or health outcomes.
Sensor presence does not guarantee access to every feature. Availability can depend on country, phone and the function itself; confirm those requirements for the specific health tools you intend to use. The cited official material does not support a claim that either watch measures health more accurately overall.

Connectivity and durability details
The Samsung India specification cited here is for the 44 mm Bluetooth model, not an LTE version. It lists GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo, Bluetooth 5.3 and a 5 ATM rating. Samsung’s corporate report also lists 5 ATM for the standard Galaxy Watch8 lineup. Google lists 5 ATM and IP68 ratings for Pixel Watch 5. These ratings describe product specifications, not a promise that either watch is suitable for every water activity or environment; follow each maker’s use and care guidance.
Do not assume that connectivity details for the Samsung India Bluetooth listing apply to an LTE model or another market. If cellular connectivity matters, check the exact size and connectivity variant, local carrier support and country-specific product listing before purchase.
