The Pixel 10a is the clearer choice if you want a smaller phone and Google’s stated seven-year update guarantee; Samsung’s larger A37 and A57 offer 120Hz displays and different camera hardware. Compare the exact models’ current local prices, storage and carrier compatibility before buying.
Which phone is better: Pixel 10a or a Galaxy A-series model?
“Galaxy A-series” describes a family, not one phone. For a useful comparison, pick a particular model—especially the A37 5G or A57 5G if you are considering Samsung’s upper midrange—or weigh the Pixel 10a against the A17 5G and A27 5G as distinct alternatives. Samsung’s US comparison page covers all four 2026 models, but configurations and availability may differ by region.

On the documented specifications, the main trade-off is size and display: Google lists a 6.3-inch screen for the Pixel 10a, while Samsung lists 6.7-inch screens across those four US Galaxy A models. Refresh rate also varies within Samsung’s range. Those facts can help narrow the choice, but they do not establish which phone is faster, lasts longer in everyday use, or takes better photos. No controlled head-to-head results for those qualities are established here.

- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]

Size and screen: smaller Pixel or larger Samsung?
Pixel 10a: a more compact listed display
Google lists the Pixel 10a with a 6.3-inch Actua display. That is 0.4 inches smaller diagonally than Samsung’s listed 6.7-inch panels. A smaller display may suit someone who prefers a less expansive viewing area, but diagonal measurement alone does not establish the overall dimensions, weight or one-handed comfort of a phone.
Galaxy A17, A27, A37 and A57: refresh rate depends on model
Samsung lists a 90Hz display for the A17 5G and 120Hz for the A27 5G, A37 5G and A57 5G. A higher refresh rate is a display specification, not evidence by itself that one phone performs better overall. If smooth scrolling or a larger screen is important, check the exact model and regional specification rather than assuming every Galaxy A has the same panel.

Camera hardware: compare exact models, not megapixel totals
Google lists a 48MP wide and 13MP ultrawide rear system for the Pixel 10a. Samsung lists a 50MP main camera on both the A37 and A57, but their ultrawides differ: 8MP on the A37 and 12MP on the A57. Both Samsung models also list a 5MP macro camera, while the Pixel’s cited specification is a dual rear system.

These specifications do not show which phone produces better photos. Megapixels and camera count cannot substitute for comparable image samples or controlled testing. If camera quality is decisive, look for independent comparisons of the exact models, taken under similar conditions, rather than choosing by the largest number on a spec sheet.

Software support: compare the promises as worded
Google Pixel 10a
Google’s Pixel 10a product page states a “7-year update guarantee.” That is Google’s published support wording; it should not be treated as an identical schedule to Samsung’s separate promise.
Samsung Galaxy A37 5G and A57 5G
Samsung’s March 25, 2026 announcement says the A37 and A57 receive “up to six generations of OS upgrades” and “up to six years of security updates.” Keep the qualification “up to”: Samsung’s announcement does not make this wording interchangeable with Google’s seven-year guarantee, and support details may vary by market. The cited statement applies to the A37 and A57, not automatically to every Galaxy A model.

Price, storage and compatibility can decide the purchase
Google announced a US Pixel 10a starting price of $499 and availability from March 5, 2026, in its launch announcement. That is a launch price, not a current transaction price. Samsung’s cited global announcement does not establish one universal current price for the A37 or A57. Promotions, inventory and configuration can change what a buyer actually pays.

Compare the exact offers available to you, including storage capacity and whether the phone is unlocked or compatible with your carrier. Samsung’s US comparison says the A17 and A27 support microSD cards up to 2TB, while the A37 and A57 do not support external memory cards; check the live listing and regional variant before relying on a capacity or feature. Also verify local warranty and repair availability: the specifications cited here do not establish those terms for your market.

How to choose between the Pixel 10a and a Galaxy A
- Name the Samsung model. Do not compare the Pixel 10a to “the A-series” as if it were a single handset. Decide whether you mean the A17, A27, A37 or A57.
- Compare local prices and storage. Use current offers for the same market, carrier status and storage tier. Treat Google’s $499 figure as its US launch price only.
- Choose your preferred screen size and refresh rate. The Pixel’s listed screen is 6.3 inches; the Samsung models in the cited US comparison are 6.7 inches, with 90Hz on A17 and 120Hz on the other three.
- Check support and ownership terms. Compare each manufacturer’s exact update wording, then confirm regional carrier compatibility, warranty and repair options with the seller or manufacturer.
- Seek model-specific evidence for performance or photos. Published hardware specifications alone do not establish real-world speed, battery endurance or camera quality.
Verdict by buyer
- Choose the Pixel 10a as the better fit if you want the smaller listed display and value Google’s stated seven-year update guarantee.
- Consider the Galaxy A37 5G or A57 5G if you want a 6.7-inch, 120Hz display; pick between them by current price, storage, camera hardware and regional availability.
- Consider the A17 5G or A27 5G if those specific models meet your budget or storage needs; they differ in refresh rate, so do not assume they match the A37 or A57.
There is no evidence-based universal winner on camera quality, speed or battery life from these specifications alone. The better purchase is the exact model that matches your priorities and is available at a competitive local price.
