Google says Pixel 10 and later phones support Qi2, except Pixel 10a. An older Qi1.x pad may still charge one of these phones, but Google limits that fallback to up to 5 W—slow charging, not a guarantee that every pad, case, or placement will work reliably. A Qi2-certified charger adds magnetic alignment and is Google’s recommendation for faster wireless charging.
That means an old pad is not automatically useless. If it charges your phone consistently and speed is not important, you can keep using it. If charging is erratic or you want the supported faster rates, check the setup before replacing anything.

Will an old wireless charging pad work with Pixel 10?
Google Pixel Help says older Qi1.x chargers can charge supported Qi2 Pixels at up to 5 W. This is Google’s compatibility guidance, not a guarantee for every charger or setup. A pad may charge slowly, charge inconsistently, or fail depending on positioning, the case, and its power configuration.

What changes with a Qi2 charger?
With an older non-magnetic pad, you may need to move the phone until the charging coils line up. A Qi2 charger uses magnetic alignment to help hold the phone in the right position. The standard alone does not mean every phone charges at the same rate: the model, power adapter, case, and temperature all matter.

Google’s published Pixelsnap maximums vary by model. They are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results or a promise of sustained speed in every situation.

Google recommends a compatible USB-C power adapter at those thresholds for the listed Pixelsnap rates; the adapter is sold separately. A charger or adapter’s rated capacity does not guarantee the phone will sustain its maximum, since temperature and other conditions can affect charging. Check your setup before replacing the pad
- Check the charger’s certification. Look up the product in the Wireless Power Consortium product database. Google says a Qi2 product’s database version number should start with 2.
- Test the case. Remove it and try charging again, or use a case designed for Qi2. Google advises using a Qi2-compatible case or removing an unsupported case if it affects charging.
- Reposition the phone on an older pad. Without magnetic alignment, the coils may need careful positioning. Try moving the phone slightly and check whether charging starts and remains active.
- Check the power source. For Pixelsnap, Google recommends a USB-C power adapter of at least 20 W for the up-to-15 W models and at least 35 W for Pixel 10 Pro XL’s up-to-25 W rate.
- Let a warm phone cool. Google says wireless charging can pause if the phone gets too warm, then resume after it cools.
Does a Qi2 charger work with older Pixel phones?
Compatibility does not work identically in both directions. Google cautions that Qi2 does not guarantee backward compatibility with older Qi1.x devices when using a Qi2 charger, and it does not recommend the Pixelsnap Charger for previous Pixel phones that lack Qi2 magnetic alignment. That warning is separate from the possible fallback in which an older Qi1.x pad charges a newer Qi2 Pixel at up to 5 W. See Google’s Pixelsnap compatibility information.

How to choose between keeping the pad and upgrading
- Keep the old pad if it charges reliably in your setup and slow charging is acceptable.
- Try a Qi2-certified charger if you want magnetic alignment or the faster rate your Pixel model supports.
- Don’t buy based on the “wireless” label alone. Verify Qi2 certification, check the phone’s supported rate, and account for the required power adapter and case.
