Pimax announced Crystal Pro on October 6, 2026, positioning it as a high-end wireless PC VR headset. The company lists the headset at $1,399, but the announcement does not establish a shipping date or an independently tested comparison with Steam Frame. Its headline specifications are ambitious; buyers should treat them as manufacturer claims until hands-on testing is available.
What Pimax announced
At its Frontier event, Pimax introduced Crystal Pro as a headset for PC VR that can connect wirelessly through the company’s AirLink options or by DisplayPort. Pimax calls its wireless PC streaming approach Native Foveated Streaming and says the PC renders the full frame. The headset can also run some applications in standalone mode, but that is a separate use case from PC-rendered VR.

Pimax says shipping dates for Crystal Pro and the 60G AirLink kit will be announced later. The official FAQ also describes a $1 reservation with launch discounts. A regional Pimax store listing says shipping starts in 2027; that timing applies to that listing and should not be assumed for every market.
Price and what is included
| Option | Pimax-announced price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Crystal Pro headset | $1,399 | Headset package; Pimax’s FAQ says it includes two ringed controllers, an external battery and a Wi-Fi dongle. |
| Crystal Pro with third-generation 60G AirLink | $1,899 | Headset and optional wireless AirLink kit. |
| Third-generation 60G AirLink kit | $599 | Optional kit sold separately. |
These are prices announced by Pimax, not verified transaction prices. The bundle costs $500 more than the headset alone, while the separately listed AirLink kit costs $599. Pimax’s product materials also list a Wi-Fi adapter as included, so the optional 60G kit is an upgrade rather than the only wireless connection option.

What the listed specifications say
Pimax lists these display and optics specifications for Crystal Pro. They are vendor specifications, not independent measurements.

PC, standalone, and tracking options
PC VR connections
For PC VR, Pimax lists built-in Wi-Fi streaming and a DisplayPort 1.4a wired option. The optional 60G AirLink is a separate wireless upgrade. The company recommends an RTX 3080 or RTX 4070 or above and lists an RTX 2070 or above as the minimum GPU guidance; actual performance will depend on the PC, application and settings.
Standalone use
Pimax lists a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 for standalone mode and says some applications can run without a PC. That capability does not mean the PC VR streaming route is rendered on the headset: Pimax describes the PC as rendering the full frame for PC VR.

Tracking and other hardware
The headset uses SLAM 2.0 inside-out tracking, according to Pimax, and can support Lighthouse tracking with a swappable faceplate. Pimax also describes a mixed-reality cover that adds LiDAR and full-color passthrough. Its product page lists a 16,000 mAh external battery. Prescription lenses are described by Pimax as forthcoming or available; check the current product listing before relying on their availability.

“Taking on Steam Frame” is a competitive framing, not evidence that the two headsets have been compared under the same conditions. The available material does not establish which headset is clearer, faster, more comfortable, lower-latency or better value. Nor does it provide an independent assessment of Crystal Pro’s software compatibility.

Independent testing of comfort, latency and real-world compatibility will matter as much as the specification sheet.
