To install Pidgin silently with Microsoft Configuration Manager (formerly SCCM), use the versioned Pidgin offline installer and include /S in the installation command. For example: pidgin-x.y.z-offline.exe /DS=1 /SMS=0 /L=1033 /S /D=C:Pidgin. Replace x.y.z with the version in the installer filename you are deploying. If you use /D, it must be the final argument and must not be quoted, even when the installation path contains spaces.
Which Pidgin switches can you use for a silent install?
Pidgin documents these options for its Windows offline installer. The required switch for unattended operation is /S; the others let you choose language, shortcuts, and the destination folder. See Pidgin’s Windows-specific help for the installer instructions.

| Switch | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|
/S |
Runs the installer silently. | Required for silent operation. |
/L=1033 |
Sets the Windows language identifier (LCID) used by the installer and Pidgin. | Pidgin documents 1033 as the default. |
/DS=1 |
Enables a desktop shortcut. | Shortcut options are optional. |
/SMS=0 |
Disables Start menu shortcuts. | Shortcut options are optional. |
/D=C:Pidgin |
Sets the installation directory. | If supplied, this must be the final argument and must not be quoted, including when the path contains spaces. |
Pidgin’s documented defaults are LCID 1033, shortcuts enabled, and an installation path under Program Files; the exact default path varies by Windows version. You can omit optional switches when those defaults suit your deployment.
How do you configure the Configuration Manager application?
Create an application and deployment type for the selected versioned offline installer. Microsoft’s Create applications documentation describes the Configuration Manager console workflow.

- Choose the installer. Use the offline installer package you intend to distribute. Confirm its actual filename and supported command-line switches against that package;
x.y.zin the example is only a version placeholder. - Set the installation program. Enter the installer filename and the required
/Sswitch. Add optional language or shortcut settings as needed. If setting an installation directory with/D, put it last and do not wrap the path in quotation marks. - Configure the deployment type. Set requirements and detection criteria appropriate to your target devices, then distribute the installer content to the relevant distribution points.
- Deploy and monitor. Select the intended device or user collection and rollout behavior, then check deployment status as clients evaluate requirements, acquire content, enforce the deployment type, and report results.
What can interrupt the install?
The installer may need to download and install the GTK runtime. A proxy or other network restriction can block access to required resources and cause a download error. Prefer the offline installer when download errors occur, and validate that required runtime content is available to managed clients instead of assuming endpoints can fetch it from the internet. Pidgin describes this runtime and network behavior in its Windows help.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where should you look when deployment fails?
Start by identifying the stage at which the deployment stops. Configuration Manager evaluates application requirements and detection, obtains content, enforces the deployment type, and reports status. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guide for the Install Application task sequence step explains this flow and discusses relevant logs.
