Picsart’s tools vary by platform, and some features, including AI Enhance, require a paid subscription. This guide walks through a simple edit first, then shows how to remove or replace a background if that is your goal.
Choose where to edit
Picsart offers editing on mobile, desktop, and the web. Use the interface that suits you; the steps below identify when a workflow is specifically for mobile or web because controls can differ. You do not need a new device to get started if you already have access to one of those options.

Make and save a simple first edit
- Open a photo. In the editor, upload or select the image you want to change.
- Pick one goal. Start with a crop or resize, a filter, or text. Picsart also lists other built-in editing tools, but you do not need to learn them all to complete a first edit.
- Adjust the result. Use the selected tool’s controls, then review the image before moving on. If the editor offers AI enhancement, treat it as optional rather than a required step.
- Export or save. When the edit looks right, use the editor’s export or save control. The exact control label and placement may differ across platforms and versions.
Picsart says many editing tools are free, while additional tools and content are premium. The free-versus-paid boundary can change and may depend on the feature, so check the prompt in your account before spending time on a premium-only step. Picsart’s editor overview describes its available platforms and tool categories.

Use background removal when you want to isolate a person or object from its original setting. On mobile, open the app, tap the plus sign to add a photo, and choose Remove BG. In the web editor, select Remove BG. Controls may move as the app changes, so follow the current labels shown in your version.

Picsart Help Center says the tool works best with images where there is strong contrast between the subject and its background. If the cutout needs refining, use Erase and Restore to adjust areas around detailed edges such as hair. The removal creates a new editable layer, leaving the original image unaffected. Choose what goes behind the cutout
After removing the original background, you can keep the cutout transparent or place it over a different background. Choose based on how you plan to use the image, not on a presumed quality ranking:

For an AI background, remove the original background, enter a prompt or choose a suggestion, then generate the scene. Picsart advises using a specific prompt. Its Help Center explains the workflow in How do I use AI Background?
Use AI Enhance only if you need it
AI Enhance can sharpen detail, address blur, and balance color, but it cannot be assumed to fix every image. Picsart Help Center describes AI Enhance as a premium feature. On mobile, open the photo and go to Tools > AI Enhance; wait for processing, then tap Apply and save. On the web, start a new project, upload a photo, and select AI Enhance in the toolbar. Picsart says an active subscription is required to apply and save the high-resolution version. Verify current access in your account before relying on this step. Is Picsart free?
Many editing tools are available free, but extra premium tools and content require a subscription. Access can differ by feature and may change over time; the editor’s own prompt is the best place to check whether a particular action is available to your account. In particular, Picsart identifies AI Enhance as premium, with an active subscription needed for its high-resolution apply-and-save workflow.
