PIA’s unlimited simultaneous-device allowance is its clearest practical distinction for households or people who use many devices. Its support documentation lists WireGuard in supported apps and describes a configurable core VPN service. Independent review coverage also characterizes it as more affordable and customizable, but actual savings depend on the term, offer and renewal price shown in your market.
Choose NordVPN if you value its broader feature bundle
NordVPN allows ten simultaneous connections and sells a tiered bundle with additional security and privacy features. That can suit someone who wants more than core VPN protection in one subscription. Added features are not, by themselves, proof of stronger core VPN privacy; compare the specific tools you would use and the tier that includes them.

Decide based on your own performance needs
TechRadar described PIA as slower than NordVPN and some competitors in its review, while Tom’s Guide reported strong NordVPN speeds. These are findings from separate publications and test setups, not a like-for-like benchmark. For latency-sensitive work, gaming, large downloads or video calls, try the service on your own network and device before drawing a conclusion.
How to compare prices fairly
Do not choose from a displayed monthly equivalent alone. The amount due now and the later renewal charge may differ, and subscription terms and offers are not identical.

- Check the plan, term and total due at checkout in your country, including currency and applicable taxes.
- Find the renewal term and renewal price. NordVPN says its introductory rate applies only to the first term and that renewal is automatic at the then-applicable rate unless canceled. PIA says website plans renew automatically under the term and price presented at checkout.
- Compare the features included in each selected tier, rather than comparing a basic plan against a bundle with extras you do not need.
- Review refund conditions before paying. NordVPN describes a 30-day period to request a refund for an initial purchase; check its current terms for eligibility and details.
PIA’s website lists monthly, yearly, two-year and three-year subscription options, but says offers can vary. Its in-app purchases are billed through Apple or Google, so their billing terms may differ from website checkout. Privacy claims: what audits establish and what they do not
Both providers describe independent reviews of no-logs claims, but an audit is scoped evidence, not a guarantee of anonymity. NordVPN’s privacy page describes reviews by PwC AG Switzerland in 2018 and 2020 and later reviews by Deloitte. Audit evidence concerns the reviewed claims and scope; it does not prevent tracking by websites, accounts or apps you choose to use. PIA: WireGuard in apps, OpenVPN for manual router setup
PIA Support’s September 25, 2026 article lists WireGuard for its Windows 10/11, macOS 10.15 and later, listed Linux distributions, Android 7.0 and later, iOS 15 and later, Android TV and Fire TV apps. NordVPN describes NordLynx, which is based on WireGuard, as the default in most apps. It also documents OpenVPN and NordWhisper, which it says is designed for restrictive networks. Its protocol documentation describes OpenVPN as using AES-256-GCM and a 4096-bit DH key; these are the provider’s descriptions, not an independent comparison of real-world security or speed. A protocol name alone does not predict which service will be faster for you. Results depend on factors such as your network, location, destination and device, and the cited reviews did not use a shared test setup.
Streaming: useful review evidence, not a guarantee
