Google’s built-in Photo Sphere mode is supported on Pixel 3 through Pixel 7a. If you have a newer Pixel, Google does not document a setting or update that brings the mode back. On a supported model, look for Photo Sphere in the Camera mode carousel and troubleshoot the Camera app if it is unexpectedly missing. On newer Pixels, Panorama is the official option for capturing a wide scene, but it is not Photo Sphere.
First, check whether your Pixel supports Photo Sphere
Google Pixel Camera Help says Photo Sphere is available on Pixel 3 through Pixel 7a. That published support range is the key distinction: on a supported phone, a missing mode may point to a Camera app problem; on a newer model, its absence is consistent with Google’s documented availability. Google does not list a hidden-menu setting, Camera update, or Android update that adds stock Photo Sphere to newer Pixels. Google Pixel Camera Help

Google community replies have described Photo Sphere as removed from future phones starting with Pixel 8, and a later discussion says it is absent from the Pixel 9 Camera app. Those posts offer user-facing context, but Google’s support page is the stronger reference for the current stock support boundary. If Photo Sphere is missing on Pixel 3 through Pixel 7a
Try Google’s general Camera troubleshooting sequence. These steps can address Camera app problems, but they are not a way to add Photo Sphere to an unsupported model. Google Pixel Phone Help: Fix your Camera app
- Restart the phone.
- Clear the Camera app’s cache.
- Check Google Play for a Pixel Camera update and install it if available.
- Check for an Android system update.
- Consider whether an app installed recently might be interfering with Camera.
If camera controls remain broken after these steps, contact Google support. The absence of Photo Sphere by itself does not establish that the camera is faulty.

What to use on a newer Pixel
Panorama for a wide scene
Open Camera, select Panorama, then follow the on-screen arrow and pause at each dot. Google documents Panorama separately from Photo Sphere. It is a practical choice for a stitched wide scene, but Google’s instructions do not describe it as full 360-degree Photo Sphere capture. Google Pixel Camera Help
Unofficial camera apps and modified builds
Community discussions mention third-party camera apps and modified GCam builds, but those reports do not establish a reliable, officially supported method for a particular Pixel model, Android version, or app build. Treat such options as unverified experiments, not guaranteed restorations. If considering one, check the developer’s device- and version-specific documentation; compatibility and reliability are not established by Google’s support information. A supported older phone
If having Google’s built-in Photo Sphere mode is essential, using a device within Google’s listed range, such as a Pixel 7a, is a device-level option—not a software fix for a newer phone. Check the specific phone’s condition and availability separately.

| Option | Best suited to | Support and confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Stock Panorama | A stitched wide scene | Documented as a Camera mode by Google; not documented as full 360-degree Photo Sphere capture. |
| Third-party app or modified camera build | Exploring related capture behavior | Compatibility and reliability are not established for a specific Pixel or software version by the sources cited here. |
If the goal is a wide view, start with stock Panorama. If the requirement is specifically Google’s Photo Sphere mode, the documented stock support range is Pixel 3 through Pixel 7a.
