Is Phoenix a separate character from Cyclops?
The naming is easy to misread. PlayStation’s July 23, 2026 announcement introduces Phoenix Cyclops as the first additional Year 1 character: Scott Summers inspired by his Phoenix Five incarnation in Avengers vs. X-Men.

What is known about Phoenix Cyclops’s gameplay?
PlayStation confirms that Phoenix Cyclops has optic blasts and hand-to-hand abilities alongside Phoenix Force power. It does not explain how those abilities function as moves, how they affect his range or difficulty, or how strong he is. The announcement says more gameplay information would come later, so there is no sound basis here for a tier, matchup, or ease-of-use verdict.

How to choose a character in a four-person team fighter
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is built around teams of four. Arc System Works Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine said players can focus on mastering one character and call teammates for support, rather than needing to master every member of the team. That makes it reasonable to start with the character you most want to learn, then build a team around the options you enjoy using.

Which controls can you use?
The official game page and FAQ describe traditional and quick inputs, adjustable controls, and easy chain combos. You do not have to assume that learning a character requires complex traditional inputs; choose the control style that feels comfortable, then adjust it as you learn.

The FAQ also says the game supports any PS5-compatible arcade stick or leverless controller and lets players customize button inputs. These are optional choices, not prerequisites for playing Phoenix Cyclops or any other character.

PlayStation’s current product page lists the game as launched on August 6, 2026, on PS5 and PC in the US and most listed regions, with August 7 launch dates for Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Korea. The same page identifies the Year 1 Character and Stage Pass as post-launch content, covering four characters and one stage. The July 23 announcement named Phoenix Cyclops as its first additional Year 1 character and said he was coming in Fall 2026, but did not give a specific release day.
