To find the right Philips trimmer charger, check the full model number and the charging interface—not just the connector’s appearance. Some Philips grooming devices use a proprietary HQ8505 power plug; models supplied with a USB charging cable use a USB power source that meets Philips’s stated requirements. HQ8505 parts also differ by region, so the plug must match both the trimmer and your wall outlet.
Start with the full model number and charging interface
Find the complete model number on the device or its packaging, including any digits after a slash. Philips specifically asks US customers requesting its HQ87 USB adapter to provide the full model number, slash suffix included. Then check whether the trimmer charges through a proprietary Philips plug or a USB cable supplied with the product.

Do not choose a charger by connector shape alone. A matching-looking plug does not establish electrical or model compatibility. Check the model against Philips’s compatibility information or the model-specific manual; if the model is not listed, contact Philips support before buying a replacement.
What an HQ8505 charger is—and what it is not
HQ8505 is a Philips power-plug type used by selected grooming and shaving products. It is not a guarantee that every Philips trimmer will work with every HQ8505 adapter: Philips lists particular compatible products for its replacement parts.

UK HQ8505 replacement parts
Philips lists CP1753/01 as an HQ8505 power adapter for the UK and identifies its cord as a three-pin type. Its compatible products include hair clippers, beard trimmers and OneBlade Pro, with specific models named on the listing. Treat that list—not the broad product category—as the compatibility check.
A separate Philips replacement-part document identifies CP0865/01 as a UK Type HQ8505 plug, with three pins. Its grooming-device list covers models in the BG, BT, HC, MG, QG and QP families, alongside shavers. The document is version 5.5.1, issued 19 October 2022, and notes that specifications may change without notice; recheck a current listing before ordering.

European HQ8505 replacement part
Philips’s CRP136/01 listing identifies an HQ8505 power plug for European countries and specifies two pins. The UK and European examples show why “HQ8505” alone is not enough: confirm the trimmer’s compatibility and the wall-plug format for your region.
USB charging: adapter voltage and safety
Philips’s USB guidance applies to personal-care products supplied with a USB charging cable. For those covered products, Philips specifies an adapter with 100–240 V input, 5 V output, and power output of at least 1 A. Philips says a USB adapter from another reputable brand is acceptable if it meets these specifications and applicable local approval requirements. Do not apply the 5 V requirement to an HQ8505 plug model; check that device’s own charger label or manual.

Philips’s support guidance, published 26 November 2025, says to use an IPX4 adapter when charging a covered USB product in a moist environment such as a bathroom. Philips describes IPX4 as splash-proof. Disconnect the product from its power supply before cleaning it with water.

HQ87 is Philips’s named adapter for compatible grooming and beauty products that come with a USB-A charging cable, including all-in-one trimmers. It connects that cable to a power outlet; it is not interchangeable with an HQ8505 proprietary plug. Philips notes that adapter naming and availability vary by location. Regional listings may use names such as “EU power adapter” or CP1607/01, so check that HQ87 appears in the product description and confirm compatibility using the complete trimmer model number. Before you buy a replacement
- Record the full model number. Include the slash suffix, if present.
- Identify the charging route. Determine whether the product uses an HQ8505-style proprietary plug or was supplied with a USB charging cable.
- Match the precise model to Philips’s listing. Check the specific replacement-part compatibility list or the model-specific manual. If the model is absent, ask Philips support rather than inferring compatibility from its product family or connector.
- Check the regional wall plug. For example, the UK parts above use three pins, while the cited European part uses two.
- For a covered USB-cable product, check the adapter requirements. Use 100–240 V input, 5 V output and at least 1 A; use IPX4 protection when charging in a moist environment.
