Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming action RPG built around fast weapon combat, flexible equipment, and adjustable difficulty. Its announced toolkit includes combos, dodges, deflects, counters, ranged attacks, and summons. Players can expand and upgrade an arsenal of more than 30 main weapons, then reforge upgraded weapons to reclaim materials and invest them elsewhere. These are developer and storefront descriptions, not hands-on findings: the game is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, with October 28 shown for the US and select regions.
How does combat work in Phantom Blade Zero?
Steam describes combat as flowing through seamless combos and names four core actions: dodging, deflecting, countering, and striking. PlayStation’s gameplay deep dive adds ranged attacks and summons to the announced options. Together, these suggest combat that can mix offense, defense, and different tools rather than relying on one move alone. The official descriptions do not say that every tactic is required in every encounter or identify a universally strongest approach.

The PlayStation game page calls it a dark wuxia action RPG with kung-fu-inspired presentation. Steam’s popular user-defined tags include Action RPG, martial arts, wuxia, Souls-like, and hack and slash. “Souls-like” is therefore a Steam tag, not a formal classification found in the official developer materials reviewed here; a label alone does not establish how closely its mechanics match other games in that category.

How many weapons are in the game?
PlayStation’s August 17, 2026 gameplay deep dive says exploration unlocks more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges, a separate secondary weapon category. Storefront descriptions are less precise about the latter: Steam says more than 20 unique Phantom Edges, while the US PlayStation page says 20+. The deep-dive figure is the more specific published count; the difference in wording does not establish that one source is incorrect.

The deep dive also says some defeated enemies add weapons to the player’s arsenal. That gives players more ways to experiment as they explore, but the official descriptions do not enumerate every weapon or explain its individual properties.
How do weapon upgrades and build changes work?
Announced progression lets players upgrade weapons and pair them with accessories. If you change your mind about an upgraded weapon, the deep dive says you can reforge it to recover its upgrade materials and invest those materials elsewhere. S-GAME founder and CEO Soulframe Liang put it this way: “Don’t worry if you second guess a weapon you’ve upgraded or want to switch up your build. You can always reforge it, get those materials back, and reinvest them in another.”

Soul, the protagonist, is framed for murdering his master and has a wounded heart with sixty-six days left to live. In the Wulin, he encounters people in need. PlayStation says interactions and some side quests may open new story paths and deepen understanding of the world. The description does not establish the full branching structure or promise that every side quest changes the main plot.

When does Phantom Blade Zero release, and where can you play it?
The current announced launch date is October 29, 2026. PlayStation’s gameplay article notes October 28 for the US and select regions, and the US PlayStation product page and Steam listing show October 28. This one-day variation reflects the dates shown by those regional storefronts. S-GAME’s June 2, 2026 letter says the release moved from September 9 to October 29, 2026.
The official Steam listing names S-GAME Studio as developer and S-GAME Publishing as publisher. The game is listed for PC and PS5. PlayStation advertises PS5 DualSense adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and spatial audio. Its product page also lists adjustable difficulty, control and tutorial reminders, pausing during offline gameplay or cinematics, and manual saving. A controller is not described as required, and the reviewed materials provide no comparative PC-versus-PS5 performance benchmarks.
What is not established yet?
Because the game is unreleased, official announcements do not establish final balance, post-launch performance, strongest weapons, the complete progression economy, or how the announced systems feel in play. Weapon counts and feature descriptions are useful indicators of intended scope, but they are not substitutes for final in-game outcomes.
