What is Perplexity Comet?
Comet is a web browser built around Perplexity’s assistant. Instead of limiting AI help to a separate chatbot or a single page, the assistant can work with open tabs, answer questions about what you are viewing, search the web, summarize pages, and interact with websites for tasks you explicitly request.

Which devices support Comet?
Perplexity’s current product page lists four platform families:
- Mac
- Windows
- iOS
- Android
The Android listing, updated September 24, 2026, describes an assistant, voice interaction across open tabs, cross-tab summaries, and an ad blocker. That listing does not establish that the desktop and iOS versions have identical tools. Check the release notes and in-app feature descriptions for the device you use.
What can Comet’s assistant do?
Understand multiple tabs
You can ask questions that require information from open tabs, request a cross-tab summary, or ask the assistant to compare material you have open. This is broader than a page-only summarizer because the requested context can span several tabs.

Search and summarize
The assistant can search the web and summarize pages. On Android, Perplexity specifically advertises voice interaction across open tabs and cross-tab summaries.
Interact with websites
Perplexity says the assistant can interact with sites for user-requested tasks. Treat this as supervised automation: review what it is about to do, especially before submitting forms, changing settings, purchasing anything, or handling sensitive accounts.
Use optional integrations
The privacy guidance describes optional third-party integrations. Grant only the permissions needed for a particular workflow and remove them when they are no longer useful.

What data does Comet send to Perplexity?
Perplexity says browsing data is stored locally by default. Its privacy FAQ lists URLs, search queries, cookies, open tabs, and permissions as local data used for navigation recommendations and AI features when relevant. It also says credentials are kept in an operating-system-dependent local secure vault rather than on Perplexity’s servers.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Local-by-default does not mean that no browsing context ever leaves the device. According to Perplexity, when you request a personal-context search or an agentic action, relevant information—such as the currently open tab and parts of browsing history—may be used. The company also says page context may be processed on Perplexity servers to fulfill a requested query or action.
The FAQ describes granular deletion controls. Review Comet’s privacy settings before using personal searches, and avoid granting integrations or access that your workflow does not require. These statements describe the vendor’s policy; they are not an independent security audit.

What does a July 2026 arXiv preprint say about Comet summaries?
A July 2026 arXiv preprint evaluated 13,777 articles from 15 US news outlets and 41,331 summaries generated by Chrome, Edge, and Comet. The July 2026 arXiv preprint reported that the sampled browser summaries were broadly accurate, while also finding changes in measured tone and bias characteristics.
This evidence is limited to summarization of the sampled news articles. It does not prove that Comet’s general answers, website actions, or personal-context searches are always accurate.

Comet Enterprise is marketed as a work-focused AI browser with enterprise controls and security capabilities. Organizations should confirm the exact controls, certifications, deployment compatibility, data terms, and contract conditions with Perplexity before procurement; marketing material alone does not establish that a specific control meets your requirements.

What was Comet Plus’s publisher arrangement?
Axios reported in August 2025 that Comet Plus was planned at $5 per month, with 80% of subscription revenue allocated to participating publishers and a $42.5 million pool for early partners. Those figures describe a dated publisher-participation plan, not a general consumer affiliate commission or an assurance that the program remains open. Verify current availability and terms directly with Perplexity.
Who should use Comet?
- Good fit: people who want an assistant that can synthesize several open pages, answer questions in context, and help with browser tasks.
- Use caution: anyone handling confidential browsing, regulated data, financial accounts, or irreversible actions should inspect permissions and confirm every requested action.
- Check first: users who depend on extensions, enterprise administration, or identical behavior across phone and desktop should verify compatibility on their specific platform.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does installing Comet automatically send all browsing history to Perplexity?
Perplexity says browsing data is stored locally by default. However, a personal-context search or requested agentic task can send relevant context—such as an open tab or browsing-history information—to Perplexity servers.
Is Comet Enterprise included with the consumer browser?
No. Perplexity markets Comet Enterprise as a separate work-oriented offering with enterprise controls; organizations must verify its current terms and capabilities directly.

The Bottom Line
Comet is a browser-first Perplexity assistant whose distinctive feature is cross-tab context and requested website actions. It is listed for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android, but feature parity and current free-versus-paid limits require checking your platform and plan. Its local-by-default privacy model still allows relevant page or browsing context to reach Perplexity when you ask for personal searches or agentic help.
