To permanently delete your Discord account, open User Settings → My Account on desktop or browser—or Settings → Account on mobile—and choose Delete Account. First transfer ownership of every server you own or delete those servers. Discord requires your password and, if enabled, multi-factor authentication. Deletion begins with a 15-day pending period; restore the account during that window to cancel the process.
Before deleting: take care of these items
Transfer or remove servers you own
Discord will not let you delete your account while you own servers. Transfer ownership to someone else or delete each server you own before returning to the deletion flow. A transferred server can continue under its new owner.

Save a copy of your data, if wanted
Request your data package before beginning deletion. Discord says delivery can take up to 30 days, and disabling or deleting your account before the download link arrives cancels the request. The package may include account information, message transcripts, and other account data. Discord says the download link remains active for 30 days. Deleting your account does not guarantee that everything you posted disappears. Discord says shared content may remain visible to other users without being tied to your account. Delete any specific messages or content you want removed while you still have access. Legal obligations and safety purposes may also require Discord to retain some information.

Delete your account on desktop or in a browser
- Open Discord and click the cogwheel to open User Settings.
- Select My Account, then select Delete Account at the bottom of the page.
- If you own servers, transfer ownership or delete them. Return to My Account and choose Delete Account again.
- Enter your account password. Complete multi-factor authentication if Discord prompts you.
- Confirm the deletion. Discord logs you out and starts the pending-deletion period.
Delete your account in the mobile app
- Tap your profile avatar to open the profile or settings area, then tap the gear icon if needed.
- Open Account and scroll to Delete Account.
- Transfer ownership of every server you own, or delete those servers, before continuing.
- Return to Account and choose Delete Account again.
- Enter your password, complete multi-factor authentication if prompted, and confirm.
Discord may change interface labels or navigation. If the steps do not match your app, look in account settings for the deletion option.
What happens after you confirm deletion?
You have 15 days to cancel it
Discord’s user-facing deletion guide says the account remains in a pending-deletion state for 15 days after confirmation. If you change your mind, restore the account during that period to cancel deletion. After the window ends, Discord says the account cannot be restored. You lose access to your account and purchases
Deletion removes your access to servers, direct messages, group messages, and purchases. Discord says Nitro and Server Boost subscriptions are cancelled as part of account deletion.

Discord says it anonymizes the account across servers and messages, but content shared with other users can continue to be retained and displayed without being associated with the account. Its retention guidance says an account is typically held for 15 to 30 days for recovery before Discord begins deleting identifying information and anonymizing or aggregating other information. Removing identifying information from backups can take up to 45 days after that hold period; longer retention may apply for legal or safety reasons. These retention timeframes are distinct from the 15-day user-facing period to restore a deleted account. Details are in Discord’s explanation of how long it keeps information.

Should you delete or temporarily disable your account?

Disabling is the reversible option for a break. Discord also says an account left disabled and inactive for two or more years may be deleted. See Discord’s instructions for disabling an account.

Yes. Discord says accounts unused for two years or more may be scheduled for deletion. If Discord has notified you about an inactivity-based deletion, logging into the website or app can prevent it. That is separate from choosing Delete Account yourself. See Discord’s inactive-account deletion information.
